F1 2025

A couple of FP1 sessions in F1 coupled with a top-10 finish in the IndyCar championship should see him reach 40-points.

This is where money can come in. And I think Liberty will encourage this. GM-Cadillac pays one or more teams to buy seat time for Herta in a few FP1 sessions and voila. Liberty profits from this as they will get a marketable US driver into F1.

EDIT: And as I mentioned in the 2024 thread, the guy who is overseeing the GM-Cadillac entry is also the CEO of Colton Herta's primary sponsor (Gainbridge) and he personally likes Herta. He will make sure Herta is in F1, one way or the other.
I'll be glad if Herta finally gets a spot. My comment wasn't that it would be impossible, just difficult. One is very possible, two maybe a stretch.

Reports coming in that Perez out/Lawson in for 2025. RIP Yuki

That would have cost RB millions and millions... unless they found a loophole in Perez contract, as in keep him as a driver but not actually drive, but that would just be weird.

Who knows...

Ironically, with the cost cap, the top teams have lots of cash to burn on non-capped expenses.

Can't imagine a scenario where they wouldn't have a performance clause they could use. He finished 8th in the championship and was consistently terrible in qualifying and the race. If he's managed to meet any performance metrics then they need to rework their contracts.

his performance metric was showing up to work on time

he's just faded away, which shows you how tough F1 is as a mind game, same as Riccardo and Bottas at Mercedes... they shine then break

Do teams buy-out in contract drivers when terminating early? would RB pay Checo

Well the performance clause to which you refer was that Checo had to be within 100 points of Max at the Summer break, which he wasn't. Only Red Bull will know then why this clause wasn't invoked.

I think it's a done deal already. If RB wanted Yuki in the car he would be in already and they're in the spot they're in now because they gave Perez a 2 year extension while his performance has been dreadful. Lawson is probably gonna be ate alive just like Albon/Gasly and be on thin ice by the mid season already

Likely because the races after the summer break included the Mexican Grand Prix, along with the US and Vegas Grand Prixs.

Mexican F1 fans on Reddit say you cannot go anywhere in Mexico without seeing Perez on a billboard or product. The guy prints merch money. Big draw in the US as well because of the Mexican/Latino population. I reckon Red Bull wanted to milk that one last time.

I mean this is being reported by Julien Febreau who is basically Crofty or Ted but for France. He's a reliable source of information. Sky Germany reported it as well
Lol. Croft and Ted being reliable sources. That's a good one, have you got more?

I mean throw the comparison away and I'd still trust Julien over 95% of other people reporting on this. F1 off season runs on the rumor roll whether you like it or not

More than likely. They fed both to Max too soon and they are running the risk of doing it to Lawson as well.

Yuki made the most sense. Seems to have the IDGAF attitude and self-assuredness to cope with the pressure, on top of the fact that if he doesn't work out, he won't be their problem beyond 2025.

Your last line is I think why they do don't want to commit to Yuki but I 100% agree with you, take the chance on him for 1 year. If he does better than Perez then great and if he doesn't, he's not your problem beyond 2025
