Why should Verstappen even care who is in the 2nd car, it's not like he helps them go faster... or perhaps he is afraid Tsunoda might show him up in the 2nd car? Now that would be something if that happened. :sneaky:

Interesting times ahead at Red Bull for sure... the next episode of 'The Young and the Restless' at Suzuka can't come fast enough. :D

It would be awesome if Yuki can perform well, Lawson seems to be very arrogant without the results to go with the arrogance. And Yuki has grown up quite alot over the last year or two.

Jip, can’t have two little tantrum babies in the same team

To say the car is completely different and hard to drive... well they have simulators which drivers sit in 24/7 and they cost mega millions, this is not F12025 on PS5. Lawson is just struggling with setting up the car and the pressure of a big team / media. A lot of drivers struggled because the Chinese circuit had been re-tarred so was a lot slippery and unpredictable.

Yuki will most likely be just one race as it's Japan. If it wasn't Japan then I would bet they would never be swapped. If at all this happens... but as ever it comes down to money.

Suzuka is a great track so I think both drivers will perform exceptionally well in either team. I hope this does happen for Yuki, and I hope they give the RB a new paint scheme like all white and a red dot or something cool.

like this.... but better

Why do some Japanese cars have the flag of the rising sun? : r/JDM

The ill-fated japanese privateer: Maki F101 : r/formula1

To be expected. I have a feeling this also has a lot to do with marketing given it's Yuki's home race, which is why they rushed into it before taking a more data-driven approach...
I believe Honda is also giving Red Bull an extra $10 million because its in Japan too...

Where's that clip from DTS with Horner and Wolff arguing about the second Red Bull car and Checo's complaints... 🙃

Seen a ghost car comparison between Lawson and Verstappen and it seems Lawson cant control the car accelerating out the corners, that is where he is losing all his time.
Same with Checo last year, he was getting massive wheelspin out of the corners when jumping on the power.

Lets not forget the most controversial driver swap ever was also at Red Bull when Kvyat was swapped for Max.
And Max won for Red Bull in his first race and all the critics went quiet.
This is not Sunday carting. Its the pinnacle of motorsport. No time for feelings.

Yuki was the original choice to replace Checo for most people. It was only Red Bull management itself that decided on Lawson for "reasons." I thought Yuki would have been the better choice off the bat thanks to his sheer experience.
The silver lining here for Lawson is that he still has a permanent seat in F1* and that VCARB seems to be quite decent to drive.
I think he'll do well with the 2025 VCARB, it seems like a little rocket.

* For now. If he is still rubbish we may even see Colapinto dropped into that VCARB. That could be quite interesting as Colapinto is quite well acquainted with Antonelli, Hadjar, Bearman and Bortoleto.

There are two approaches to this:

1.) Have a junior team. Chop and change rookies the way Red Bull does so that if one guy isn't doing the job you can stick another fellow in pronto

2.) The Mercedes approach: Take the time to get your rookie up to speed in older F1 machinery long before swapping drivers. Antonelli drove 10,000km in older F1 cars before his debut.

I don't know about you, but I think Antonelli looks quite comfortable out there...

Helmet Makro does not approve of this post.

He's not driving a Red Bull.
I'm just saying that Lawson seemed pretty unprepared for that Red Bull seat. The car isn't great, sure, but at the same time he didn't exactly spend all that much time with it or older Red Bulls. All his practice sessions were cut short for one reason or another.
