Anyone else find the VJM to be an annoying name for a car? Named after an ultra wealthy tax dodger pleading poverty.

True, he has a Merc engine in there. The team is a bit of a square peg in a round hole - the name for one... force India... the only 'national' team on the grid... VJ reminds me a bit of Flav.

Flavio Briatore's indefinite ban from motorsport has been overturned by the Tribunal de Grande Instance in Paris.

The court reversed the decision of the World Motor Sports Council (WMSC), which hit Briatore with the ban for his part in conspiring to cause a deliberate crash at the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix.

Briatore was also awarded €15,000 (US$21,600) compensation, although that figure was short of the €1 million (US$1.44m) he was seeking. The French court gave the FIA 15 days to pay or face a €10,000 per day fine.

Renault's ex-director of engineering, Pat Symonds, also had his five-year ban overturned for his part in the scandal. He was awarded US$7,200 compensation; again well short of the US$722,000 he had sought.

The verdict said that the FIA and WMSC did not have the authority to impose such a penalty on team members, such as Briatore and Symonds, as they do not hold a licence to compete.

"The FIA ... can sanction licence holders, leaders, members of an ASN [national motorsport authorities], but it cannot with respect to third parties, take measures equivalent to a sanction - in contravention of article 28 of its statutes," the verdict read.

"The World Council, by forbidding FIA members and licences to work with Messrs Briatore and Symonds, on the one hand added a negative condition - to not work with them - which is not provided for within the FIA statutes."

So the FIA ban stands, as it should, but was outlawed by the over sensitive French Supreme Court on, what I assume, was an appeal. If the man has any respect for the sport he should stick by the FIA ruling and not have the cheek to show his face in the F1 Paddock.

Ron Dennis forked out his US$100 Million fine and he didn't even mastermind the spy gate saga, as a result he remained in the sport with dignity and respect.

Interesting that Alonso was key to both scandals and gets off scot free.

The FIA operates under French legal jurisdiction so the FIA ruling/ban ceased to exist after the court ruling.

I'm sure he's been seen at a few races last season..

As for pure speculation, what were you expecting exactly? Stories about them and their toast and preserves for breakfast? We were in speculation mode if you check the preceding posts.

Lamborghini could return to Formula 1 if the conditions are right, according to CEO Stefano Domenicali, who acted as Ferrari's team boss between 2008 and 2014.

Following his ousting from Ferrari by then president Luca di Montezemolo, Domenicali took up a motorsport role with Audi before taking over at Lamborghini as CEO in 2015.

Admitting he will always have a soft spot for F1, Domenicali says Lamborghini could be on the grid in the future if certain areas of the sport are improved.

"You are touching a very sensitive part of my heart," Domenicali is quoted as saying by Spain's AS.
"I want to be very honest with you, today we have other priorities to be focused on...but tomorrow?
"Motorsport will always be part of Lamborghini and if Formula 1 changes, and if I see we have the right strengths as a company, then the answer is: 'Why not?'"

However costs are an area that must change according to the Italian – and he may be in luck with new owners Liberty Media signalling that cost controls and budget caps are on the agenda for future introduction.

"It could happen in the future," he added, "but joining with the current level of cost necessary not only just to run but to be competitive, is too far from what we'd want. So if we see a hint of change in that specific area, it is worth considering."
Lamborghini last competed as an engine supplier in the early 1990s.

To be honest I would rather not hear anything rather than the drivel some web sites try to convince us is news.

I am not getting at you or anyone else here on the forum, just sick of interesting headlines that turn out to have no content and don't even constitute rumours, just the web authors imagination quoted as if it were a fact.

I tend to avoid all the F1 Sites till the week before the first test. The only thing I missed was Rosberg's Retirement and even that I thought was click bait at first :)

McLaren to develop new engine in partnership with BMW

McLaren Automotive has announced a strategic project to design and develop technology for the next generation of powertrains.
Working with a number of partners including BMW Group, the project will develop new combustion technology that will deliver a higher output per capacity than currently possible. It also aims to further facilitate CO2 reductions while simultaneously increasing engine output. The technology is destined for application in future McLaren engines.
The project, supported and part-funded by UK Government through the Advanced Propulsion Centre (APC), will also improve the UK's development and production capabilities of low-CO2 internal combustion engine technology.
The project will be led by McLaren Automotive but involves a total of six partners. McLaren Automotive will work with its existing engine manufacturing partner, Ricardo, and BMW Group while Grainger and Worrall will deliver complex, lightweight casting technology. Lentus Composites will contribute knowledge in specialist composite structures. Completing the syndicate is the University of Bath who bring their advanced research and development capabilities in internal combustion engine systems efficiency.
"This is an exciting project that plays to the strengths of all partners," said the Chief Executive Officer of McLaren Automotive, Mike Flewitt. "McLaren Automotive has an exceptional reputation for building the world's finest engines, as showcased by our M838T and its previous category wins in the International Engine of the Year awards.
"We will continue to independently design and build our own engines, and the benefits of this project will help us accelerate the development of our next generation of powertrain, as confirmed in our recently-announced Track22 business plan."
