F1 - General discussion and 2017

Off topic for here, McLaren Automotive is the road car division, the F1 division is McLaren Racing.

50/50 actually .
There will be new eyes on McLaren`s existing technology and considering that BMW are quite heavily invested in Hybrid technology , there might be some knowledge sharing on tech that might make it to their F1 engines.

Not sure where you saw that...

The story was, in any case, somewhat confused. McLaren Technology Group does not own the McLaren Automotive car company, or at least it owns only a very small percentage. The owners of the McLaren Technology Group do control McLaren Automotive, but the ownership structure is very different – and this is significant because overall control is not always the same. Having said that, if the money is good, the partners might sell both companies to a big player like Apple.

The story says that McLaren has expertise “that ranges from automotive engineering and on-board computer systems to novel chassis materials such as carbon fibre and aluminium”. This is true, but not in the single company, although the two firms do share the very flash Apple-esque headquarters in Woking.

The McLaren Technology Group, is a racing car manufacturer and a third party technical supplier. It is involved in marketing, it applies its technologies to other industries, it has a catering business and is involved in “corporate services”. It changed its name in January 2015 in order to draw attention to its diversified interests in high-technology company, involved in industries such as oil and gas, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, aviation and financial services.

McLaren Automotive is a stand-alone company and operates as a separate operation.

The car company is very different. The last official filings reveal that McLaren Technology Group owns only 3.6 percent of McLaren Automotive.

McLaren Technology Group (F1 team owner) has a 3.6% share in McLaren Automotive. McLaren Automotive has nothing to do with the F1 engine.

You have to be very naive to think if BMW shares tech with McLaren Automotive that might be useful/better with refinement for their sister company`s F1 cars , it wont find its way into F1 factory hands.

McLaren F1 doing well is good marketing for McLaren Retail/Automotive .

Still completely off topic, you would be the naive one if you think BMW would allow its technology to be used by Honda without licensing agreements (remember Honda? The engine supplier of McLaren F1).

By the way, what's "McLaren Retail"? It seems strangely absent from any references in the McLaren Technology Group?

Nice swerve on your 50/50 statement though...

Retail :

The sale of goods to the public .

You do know that even if just knowledge of a process that is better than the currently used process can make a difference in F1 ?

Lets use a hypothetical example without using any technical parts .

BMW has a process for the battery covers to be lighter and stronger and more cost effective in their hybrid consumer cars .
They share this technology / knowledge with McLaren Automotive .

Do you really think that at no stage will McLaren F1 be made aware of this new found knowledge ?
Logic tells me that F1 engineers will take it and try improve it even more .
The fact though is that in the end the F1 car would gained out of the BMW & McLaren Automotive partnership.

The definition of retail (with a small r).

I asked what McLaren Retail was, the term you used.

I take that as confirmation you have no idea of how licencing of IP works, you think BMW wouldn't be all over any unauthorised use outside the company it's working with.

However, this is all completely off topic.

McLaren Automotive is f-all to do with F1, I've shown you it's a completely separate company, this is the f1 thread so what McLaren do in a completely separate company needs its own thread. Feel free to start one...

No need to swear ...
Cant keep your temper tantrums in control because you haven't matured past puberty ?

McLaren Automotive dealing with other car manufacturers shouldn't be a surprise, Williams are already doing that as well. Granted, the Williams-Mercedes partnership is nothing like the McLaren-Honda partnership.

In Williams' case you have the F1 team and also Williams Advanced Engineering. Williams Advanced Engineering have most notably partnered with Porsche (developed a hybrid flywheel for their GTR3 endurance program); Jaguar (helped design and build their prototype hybrid supercar, the C-X75); Nissan (developed a ''track pack''for the GT-R which Nissan now offers its clients and are a partner in Nissan's ''green energy'' program) and Audi (Audi's all-conquering Le Mans cars incorporate Williams' hybrid technology). According to Williams there are many other's they work with but they are not allowed to reveal whom and what they are doing.

Show me the swear words? I'm sure there is a swear filter on this forum...

Has your sense of embarrassment at writing crap not cut in yet?

Nope still not seeing any.

How's your alcohol intake currently?
Circumventing the swear filter in any means but still implying a swear word doesn't take skill and is also against forum rules.

Anyways if you can't seem to understand that tech sharing will happen in companies across different decisions / parent companies, I am sorry you fail at logic and everything I try and explain is above your intelligence and comprehension so not wasting more time on trying.

Since when was flip a swear word? It's your dirty mind in the gutter that's the problem...

Take your head out your ass, accept when you are wrong about something and move on.

Getting belligerent and argumentative over a minor issue like being wrong over something as simple as not knowing your McLaren hierarchy is just so childish...
