F1 - General discussion and 2017

It’s probably due to the fact he gained a position by going all 4 wheels off. I can’t think of anyone else who managed a pass like that in the race.

I think there were a couple... will have to jog my memory as to who though....

There were definitely a couple of guys who went off track at the end of the back straight trying to defend their position from a car trying to overtake. This is effectively gaining an advantage too.

If they are not allowed off the track then build a wall or put in hay bails, this is bull. You can't expect them to use paint as track limits, they need a physical block or something that penalises the driver rather than the stewards. Even driving at 60 KMH I have crossed the painted islands, often, at 300 KMH I wouldn't even see them.

I enjoyed that race to be honest and I think the penalty was fair on Max, but great to watch.

lol

Horner having a real moan, he “went and had a frank discussion with the stewards and vented my displeasure” :crylaugh:

For the conspiracy theorists, Mika Salo from Finland was the steward who made the call AFAIK.

Still a legit call IMO. I just wish they'd been consistent throughout the race on those calls.

Stupid Max, I think he’s going to be deeper in the s**t come tomorrow.

He’s just called the steward an idiot and called for a fans boycott of next year’s race...

Silly boy, he should zip it till he’s calm.

That is my argument.
From FP1 they knew that the drivers were pushing it and they did nothing.
The only time it counted against Ferrari and they suddenly decide to enforce track limits.
The fact that a Fin made a ruling in favor of a fellow Fin is besides the point,.
Be consistent and make it an automatic penalty.
They could use a bed of nails of carbon fiber shards to shred the tires if you go to far off track, that would still allow it to be a safety run off but the drivers would avoid it..

Daniel Ricciardo says he was unaware that Max Verstappen had been given an upgraded engine for this weekend's United States Grand Prix.

Ricciardo also claimed he did not realised that the Dutchman will hold a performance advantage until the end of the campaign.

For the Austin weekend, Renault has given one version of its updated power unit, which includes 2018 development parts, to each of its three teams.

It is then up to those teams to decide which driver runs it.

At Renault, Nico Hulkenberg has got the new specification and Brendon Hartley is running it at Toro Rosso, while Verstappen has been given the Red Bull version.

Ouch...
