Toro Rosso Formula 1 team principal Franz Tost says a loss of confidence in Daniil Kvyat and poor results led to Red Bull releasing him.
Kvyat scored a point in last weekend's United States Grand Prix on his return to the team after a two-race absence, but following discussions with Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko and Toro Rosso team boss Tost, it was agreed he would be let go.
Tost conceded Kvyat had endured several technical problems this season but added he also made mistakes and scored just four points to team-mate Carlos Sainz Jr's tally of 48 during the time they were team-mates.
"The season from Daniil this year was very unfortunate," Tost told Autosport.
"There were a lot of technical problems which were not in the hands of Daniil, he couldn't do anything. But he also made some driver errors.
"Both parties lost confidence in each other.
"In such a situation, it's better to say OK, we stop the cooperation and this gives Daniil the chance to look for another team and to look for his future.

It hardly needs reminding that Verstappen has history with the stewards. Very recent stewards.
And, when asked what he thought if a penalty was imposed, the Red Bull driver has told American TV: "That would be really stupid. You know my comment already."
Personally I thought they would give him a penalty, just to show that they were consistent, he did insult a fellow Steward last time.
But I guess that as the penalty would not have helped a Ferrari this time there was no need to apply it.
Lewis is planning to hit corner 1 in the lead. I reckon Seb is planning a sandbagged start in hopes of Lewis retiring lol.I'm looking forward to tonight's race. I think F1 fans are in for a treat with both drivers at the front row desperate for a win. It's a pity Lewis might not wanna involve himself in the action for T1. Gonna be a great race nonetheless.

It’s currently 4:39pm in the UK.
Well Sky is currently showing the Porsche Super cup, so the build up show will be 7:30 our time and as it is 90Min long the race will be 9PM our time.
The fact that FOM updated the F1.COM web site to show 21:00 I would think that is now correct.
The Confusion was that F1.com had it wrong until they updated today.
I bet they were working on UK+1 having forgotten about the time change today.
You’d better send you butler to tell Iceman![]()
