Yeah, made me change my opinion of him. Thought he was taking a ride on Daddy's billions, but the kid does have talent. He just happens to be the son of a billionaire as well. Lucky dude indeed
 
Lando Norris has been confirmed as McLaren's official test and reserve driver for 2018.

The Briton, who turns 18 next Monday, replaces 2009 world champion Jenson Button in the role and will be McLaren's first option to deputise for race drivers Fernando Alonso and Stoffel Vandoorne next season.

Norris won the European Formula 3 championship last month, emulating four-time world champion Lewis Hamilton.

Hartley claims second WEC title

Along with countryman Earl Bamber and Germany’s Timo Bernhard, Hartley steered the No. 2 Porsche to second place at Shanghai in the penultimate round of the championship.

While Toyota won the race, courtesy of Kazuki Nakajima, Anthony Davidson and Sebastien Buemi, second was enough to secure Porsche's third successive WEC title as it prepares to leave the sport for Formula E.

I hope he gets the Toro Rosso seat next year, he came across well in interviews in Austin and he drove well too. I would rather see him in F1 than lose him to Formula E along with Porsche.

I would love to see Porsche continue in WEC but, as they have dropped it in favour of Formula E, he won't be able to continue with Porsche WEC as it won't exist.

With Palmer's departure and Lewis being drawn in to the odd retirement debate, they're gonna be looking for the next great British hope.

Ironically, that was the way Button (the driver he is replacing) was seen when he entered the sport. Hill had just retired and Coulthard was, well, just Coulthard.

Button was seriously done in with his contracts. He was never allowed a decent drive - being shuffled from team to team.

For whatever reason, he couldn't shake the young ''playboy'' image early in his career and that seemed to rub folks the wrong way. Unfortunately, one of those folks was very powerful, Flavio Briatore, and that meant he lost out on the opportunity to drive championship-winning cars earlier in his career as Briatore was the boss at Renault.

In hindsight though, the one contract screw-up that ended up benefiting him was BAR refusing to allow him to return to Williams. BAR and later Honda had some horrible years between 2004 - 2008, but it all culminated in Brawn powering him to a championship.

That and Button's claim to fame of taking a crap car like the BAR to second in the driver's championship. That's quite a brag.
I have no time for Briatore.
