Well they haven't been doing well and seemed to be stagnating on progress towards the latter part of the season compared to the guys around them , fresh views might be just what they need. If they want to progress above their current expected position in the current team rankings, they will have to take a risk. With the regulation changes, I see an a opertunity. Big risk might lead to big reward, even it is just occasionally .

Williams can't afford "just occasionally", they need a proven points scorer to earn their cut of F1 revenues. Forgot the figure, but one championship point is worth quite a bit when teams get their money
 
Occasionally boxing above your weight will give you those points and compared to settling for average will also provide team motivation, confidence and experience that can shape a future championship challenging or even winning team.

Williams needs to do more than just have a slippery fast car. They need it to take bends fast too. Then they should see some decent progress.
 
Can't wait to see how much IP Paddy can take to Williams. I for one would love to see a Williams challenging for the win alongside Ferrari, Red Bull, McLaren and Mercedes.

That would never work. Ever. Not while he is there. I can picture him going over to Red Bull garage to punch Verstappen for a tight move on his wife.
 
Mercedes hopes to test Valentino Rossi

Toto Wolff said he wants to get MotoGP rider Valentino Rossi and rally driver Sebastien Ogier into the Mercedes seats.

The team boss is looking to fill retired champion Nico Rosberg’s spot and is eying test drives with seven-time MotoGP world champion Rossi and four-time world rally champion Ogier, although the focus remains on securing Williams driver Valtteri Bottas.

Wolff said it is an exciting prospect to get the two outsiders in a Formula One car, despite neither being expected to be offered the job full-time.

“F1 also is about entertainment,” Wolff told Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport. “And I would love to test the ability of Valentino Rossi and Sebastien Ogier behind the wheel of our machines.”

“Yes, my idea is to organise a day with them. The idea would be to organise a track day with both of them.”

Mercedes this year gave three-time MotoGP champion Jorge Lorenzo a test in the team’s car at Silverstone, with Lorenzo calling the experience “a dream come true.”

Rossi has been linked with a switch to F1 in the past.

A Mercedes test would be Ogier’s first time in a Formula One car.

Meanwhile, Mercedes’ negotiations with Williams over Bottas continue to struggle as the real venture to fill Rosberg’s seat goes on.

Reports say that Williams are seeking a full discount on their 20 million euro per year deal with Mercedes, while Wolff had offered a 10 million euro discount.

“We have not yet made the decision because it involves more than just the driver and our team,” Wolff said. “We must have respect for other teams. Valtteri is an option, but we also know how important he is for Williams. It’s a delicate situation which requires us to move cautiously, so we’ve decided to take our time with it.”
