Not sure if this has been posted yet, but Alonso will use his Indy 500 helmet this weekend as a ''Thank you'' to his American fans.

Fernando Alonso to run Indy 500 retro helmet in F1's US GP

McLaren Formula 1 driver Fernando Alonso will run his Indianapolis 500 crash helmet design at next weekend's United States Grand Prix in Austin.

The Spaniard elected for a retro concept during his assault on IndyCar's biggest event earlier this year, having been prompted by McLaren's decision to run his car in its famous orange colours.

Alonso battled for victory before being forced out with an engine failure at Indy, and has elected to resurrect his helmet design on his return to racing in the US.

Keeping the same red, yellow and blue lines on a black background that the Indy helmet had, the only changes revolve around F1 specific sponsors, and his race number changing from #29 at Indy to his traditional F1 #14.

Revealing the design on Instagram, Alonso said he had made the decision as a tribute to Indy and as a thanks to American fans.

F1 drivers are supposed to retain the same helmet colours for the entire season, but they are allowed to do something different at one race per year.

The regulations state that at other events the helmet must be "presented in substantially the same livery".

And in other news related to FA, he's resigned with McLaren for next year (according to Supersport.com)

I don't know. I recall during a race broadcast earlier in the season that the general belief around the paddock is that when power isn't a factor the McLaren is a very handy car.

Both cars qualified in the top-10 at Monaco, Hungary and Singpapore, tracks that emphasise mechanical grip and downforce. Alonso was also only .3 off of the Force India's (one of the outright fastest cars on the grid) in Canada, a track that sits between power and downforce. There is a reason why Mercedes and Ferrari refused to supply them with engines. Macca can still build a racing car worth its salt.

With Renault, you don't get the raw power of a Mercedes, but that hasn't stopped Red Bull from winning. The drivers likely won't have to deal with the amount of grid penalties that have compromised them with Honda units either. Should be a massive improvement next year. 4th in the constructors plus a podium here and there and perhaps even a win should be possible.
