Facebook a military security risk?

The US Defence Department said on Thursday it is reviewing the use of Facebook and other social media amid concern the sites pose a cybersecurity risk for sensitive military networks.

I really don't understand how FaceBook is effecting them. Nobody goes on FaceBook and says "Today, I will find out some of the US Defence Departments, Deep Dark secrets because FaceBook has all their information on it." It is a social website not an information portal.

Just my opinion....

Chances are you'll find it's servicement posting photos they shouldn't and flapping off at the mouth and so on they're worried about. Even something innocuous like "Hey mom, we're heading up north for a few weeks, so I'll be out of touch for awhile" can be an indication of troop movements, of an impending operation, and so on.
Lose lips really do sink ships, and it's surprising just how much you can put together from seemingly innocent little pieces of information if you know what to look for.

Search for #iranelection.
Not a peep with the violence in China a few weeks ago as the authorities shutdown the mobile & internet networks to stop any leaks or organizing of attacks

facebook is not the problem, the user is weak link in security, just a few words and picture revealing just enough and someone might connect the dots.

I've seen our own army posting "sensitive" stuff on facebook and mind you its not just one or two people.

But I think the biggest risk to them is that they are scared that a virus comes from those sites and cause havoc on their systems...

I vote they should rather use a unix system then they will have far less hassles...( if that is the actual problem?)
