Facebook abuser doesn't deserve prison

A man accused of violating the online privacy of women by making public their intimate photos was portrayed Thursday by his lawyer as a naive, bored young person who had a drinking problem and didn't recognize the public embarrassment he was causing.

Hopefully the coverage this gets makes people think twice about digitizing sensitive stuff. Of course that aside people like this need to have the law come down on them.... but honestly, DON'T trust facebook with your stuff people... it's SIMPLE.

Of course facebook in this equasion could be nothing more than the hunting grounds for personal information which is then used to answer the 'security' questions when resetting a gmail account etc.

I wonder how many other people are going to try this approach given the public mention of his success at it?

TBH I think a whole bunch of people are going to try this... Time to make sure your passwords are all different otherwise your screwed over

The loophole is them stupid "Security question" things.

**** like "What's your favourite colour?" is usually easy to guess off-hand, and the classis "What's your mother's maiden name?" could be a simple matter on facebook.

If it only sends an email/sms to your existing communication channels, it shouldn't be an issue.

bored? he could have found other things to do with his time - sorry go do charity work or something don't violate other people no matter if it is nude pictures of them these belong to them and they have every right to say who gets to see it and who not.

What he did is obviously not right, If he does not know it i blame the parents for not teaching him basics of right and wrong. Don't put Private things in social networks your right. But come on!, who hasn't sent a private picture to someone u care about. Just do it via email or some sort of communication where others dont know about it. like a private email address not on your facebook ect.

I think he should spend some time behind bars even if it only a year.

What he did was very wrong.

Wait.
How is it wrong again? If you find some "cool" pics on the net you cant send them to your friends?

 So should those that post intimate images online - that must realise that the internet is a public domain, and that it's not a place for "privacy". Should make them think twice.

He got their email addresses from Facebook, then answered basic security questions to gain access to their mail accounts. The mail accounts contained private photos that the women sent to their boyfriends and husbands.

It's not exactly public domain pics on the net that you can share with your buds.

1. Don't put your private(s) stuff on the internet - keep it to the bedroom..
2. who the hell wants to go through all that trouble for some half-naked pics. Really, if you are into that and want some "eye candy" go buy a book at you local sex shop or go to the local strip club.

I agree. Private photos are fine, but why the hell put them on a social networking site?
And then to put them on one that is so poorly protected?

Kinda dumb.

Also, didn't Facebook recently amend their digital rights policy? Something about them owning anything you posted and reserving the right to use it?
Just wondering if anyone has info on that.

Two posts above yours. They were not put on Facebook.
