Facebook agrees to suspend using WhatsApp user data

- UK users
- only for advertisements or product-improvement purposes
- for unspecified purpose they are allowed.

The messages you send are encrypted, WA/FB can't see the content you send (so they say, but that's another discussion). You may or may not have a FB account or link to any other social media. WA/FB say they want to use your number "for advertisements or product-improvement purposes". How they are going to do that one can only speculate. It most likely has to do with who you connect with rather than what you exchange as this is the info they have from your phone number and those you connect with through WA. Add in any of your contacts that also have accounts on FB or are connected to FB, and you can start putting the bits together.

If you have spent $16Billion on buying an app that gives you access to 1Billion users, there is no way that you are not going to find a way to recoup that. For years users have requested features (like blocking being added to groups) only to be ignored and have bloat added to the app (voice and now video calling).

I found that WA was becoming a pain in the rear. I ditched it for Telegram and SMS. Those I want to connect with are available. The endless steam of "thumbs up" and "thanks" that accompanied every single group post became too much for me. 2 months of pure pleasure so far.

Would be interesting to see how they will set out to explain this to users.

Makes no sense. What is it with you today mate?

I meant 2 months of pleasure since bombing WA.

As far as the bloat, WA is almost twice the installed size as Telegram (before data) . On top of that WA cannot run from the SD card, where as Telegram runs just fine.
Moving WhatsApp to your memory card (SD card) is not possible at this time. We are working on improving our application size and memory utilization. There are technical hurdles that do not allow us to move our application to the SD card. In the meantime, we recommend that you help make room for WhatsApp by moving as many other applications and media files as you can, to your SD card.

As far as tracking, if you want to use my details ask me to opt in. Don't require me to opt out or add it to the TOS years after the app was installed.

.LOL.
It is good that you have switched to Telegram. Whatsapp messages are encrypted, but account can be cloned easily (tenagers cand do it) and then all past and current messages can be readed on the cloned device. User is completely unaware of the fact of cloning. It was discussion already about account cloning couple months ago.
