Facebook Inc. changes its name to Meta

Anti Vaxxers wont like this tracking by Zuckerberg. Keep an eye out for a protest at Sea Point

Taking a leaf out the ANC playbook: "if it's broken, rename it." Still...Metash*t.

The one thing that they could have done better is the logo, it is super generic. Lemniscate... it could very well have been a stock logo. Just odd that they went with things which are commonly used... Trademark hell, but then again, circles are being trademark, so...
Agreed. That's one boring logo.

Yeah obviously pushing to make sure they have monopoly in meta verse idea.
Meta is going to make for easy 'copyright' bullying. Now they just take products down in the same technology line because of the use of Meta. And naturally it costs money to defend yourself.

I'm sure this is just to keep their monopoly position they have currently.

So they're building VRChat? NeosVR? XD

"We expect to invest billions of dollars."

I'm considering getting involved with FB (Meta) now just to let Zuckerburg's money pay for this:

Simplicity is a key element in the current times. You will see many logos being simplified because it speaks better for recognition and association. The infinity symbol is just so overused, so though there is hype now for recognition, it isn’t going to last long unless it is shoved into your face all the time. I don’t think Meta is a bad name, it is in fact a great name, it is short and powerful, but it is also spoken too commonly.

You know where I have heard of their new logo from before?

Yeah, Facebook Inc's new logo is Buzz Lightyear's catchphrase.

/sigh

It's actually just the affinity symbol used in many forms for ages. But yes, it is a buzz word.

Is it just me or is Zuckerberg's entire future plan and the Metaverse he's building basically Ready Player One - the movie?
Very much so. I think the writing is on the wall for the Facebook app with all the regulatory scrutiny. Time to double down on Oculus, etc

WhatsApp refreshes branding in new update, now ‘WhatsApp from Meta’

After Facebook announced this week that the brand that will gather Facebook itself, Messenger, WhatsApp, Instagram, and more will be called Meta, the company is now changing the footer of its apps to reflect that.

As spotted by WABetaInfo, with version 2.21.220.14 of WhatsApp beta, when you open the app, it doesn’t show “WhatsApp from Facebook” anymore and it now reflects “WhatsApp from Meta.”

About a year ago, WhatsApp added the “from Facebook” brand when opening the app and it’s now changing that to reflect its goals of being a metaverse company.

The publication also notes that WhatsApp also removed the “WhatsApp from Facebook” footer in the settings as well.

When Mark Zuckerberg announced this change alongside its plan for a billion users in its metaverse in a decade from now, he said:

As part of this, it’s time for us to adopt a new company brand to encompass everything that we do. To reflect who we are and what we hope to build. I’m proud to announce our company is now Meta.

To add to the above, the company at this time actually remains Facebook Inc. however it is trading as Meta. I don't know whether the name will legally change, but all their legal documentation are undersigned by Facebook Inc. The companies below are owned by Facebook Inc:

- Facebook Technologies, LLC and Facebook Technologies Ireland Limited = Oculus
- WhatsApp LLC and WhatsApp Ireland Limited = WhatsApp
- Novi Financial, Inc. (and partners) = Novi
- Facebook Payments Inc. and Facebook Payments International Limited (Facebook Pay) - I believe Facebook Pay is also implemented within Instagram, which will also be used in WhatsApp aside to WhatsApp Pay.
- CrowdTangle Inc. (CrowdTangle)
- and Facebook Inc., probably due to legal reasons, are separately registered in Brazil.

For all means and purposes, Facebook, Inc. ("Meta", "we" or "us").

I believe Facebook Pay is also implemented within Instagram, which will also be used in WhatsApp aside to WhatsApp Pay.

Facebook (as we all know it), Instagram and Messenger are all direct Facebook Inc. ("Meta") products.
