New Suzuki Celerio revealed with curvier design, and it’s coming to SA in 2022
The all-new Suzuki Celerio has been revealed in India, sporting a curvier design, increased dimensions, an efficient new engine and more digitised cabin.
The new Suzuki Celerio is expected to arrive in South Africa during the first half of 2022, according to our local contact, and it will presumably slot between the S-Presso and Swift models.
Measuring 3695mm in length and 1655mm in width, the new Celerio is a good 95mm longer and 55mm wider than the outgoing model, while the wheelbase stretches by 10mm to total 2435mm.
Like the Swift and S-Presso, the new Suzuki Celerio is built around the company’s Heartect platform, which makes extensive use of high tensile steel to improve structure strength and crash safety.
Under the bonnet you’ll find a new-generation K-Series normally aspirated petrol engine featuring dual variable valve timing. The 1-litre, three-cylinder engine produces 49kW and 89Nm, and the company claims combined fuel consumption figures of around 4.0 litres per 100km, depending on the model. Customers will get to choose between five-speed manual and AMT automated transmissions.

All-new Suzuki Celerio breaks cover with aggressive new face
The next-generation Suzuki Celerio has been unveiled by the Japanese manufacturer’s Indian Maruti arm as its new budget subcompact entry-level hatchback. Mechanically, the car is not all too different from its predecessor.
From the exterior of the Suzuki Celerio, the sharp headlamps and aggressive front grille aims to give it an imposing front look while the flowing lines of the body makes up a somewhat dynamic shape. Overall dimensions for the new model come in at 3 695 mm long, 1 655 mm wide and 1 555 mm tall.
Within the cabin, the brand claims that leg room has been expanded by changing the layout of the seats, which offers improved comfort while maintaining enough luggage space. In addition, the Suzuki Celerio sports a 7,0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity.
The 1,0-litre three-pot naturally aspirated Dualjet engine remains as the powertrain of choice for the Suzuki Celerio which still sits on the brand’s Heartech platform. In addition to the five-speed manual transmission, the Auto Gear Shift will also be available.

Weird & illogical decision by Maruti-Suzuki to designate the much smaller lower inboard tail-light chambers for the indicator globes, and the much larger outboard chambers for the reverse lights - surely, as they are used much more frequently, the indicators should be designated at a higher rear safety illumination level than the reverse lights, swapped over and placed at the rear corners, so they can be visible from a greater rear oblique angle...

As I mentioned previously, they still need to swap over the reverse light & indicator light bulbs...

From what we can see, there two levels of trim: GA and GL. The Suzuki Celerio is offered with a choice of either a 5-speed manual gearbox or an automated manual transmission (AMT).
The engine of choice is a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol motor which delivers 49 kW and 89 Nm.
