Facelifted Suzuki Celerio (Celery) unveiled

New Toyota Vitz X-Cite edition adds some colour to the entry hatchback world

If you’re looking for an affordable new car and you’re a fan of the colour orange, then it’s quite possible that this new Toyota Vitz edition will X-Cite you.

A month after announcing a discount that slashed R20 000 off the price of the Suzuki Celerio-based hatchback, bringing the starting price down to R169 900, Toyota has quietly added a new special edition to its website.

The Toyota Vitz X-Cite is available in standard 1.0 guise at R189 900, and in higher-spec 1.0 XR form at R219 900, effectively eliminating the aforementioned discount, while adding some visual flavour and a little more spec in the base version.

You can tell the X-Cite editions apart by their black wheel arch mouldings, with matching front and rear bumper spoilers and side skirts, as well as protective side mouldings with orange accents.

You’ll also find X-Cite badging on the rear doors, while the colour orange is applied to the rear roof spoiler as well as subtle striping on the mirror caps and, on the XR version, the front fog light surround.

must think SAns are idiots who will pay extra for some decals and some weird colours, over actual features.

but I guess it works on VW and BMW who did the same thing releasing cars with a few decals and charging handsomely for it.

2023 Vitz for 163900 as opposed to 214900 saving 50K thats almost an entire years depreciation right there.

I know what everybody says on MYBB ad infinitum, Dont buy from We buy cars, no matter what the deal is.
but here we have almost a Demo Toyota Vitz, 2023 model 15K on the clock, already taken its first big Depreciation knock, from a NEW car,
one loses 20% in the first big hit, from a new car, so already your winning.

only thing I see thats listed and made it lose this amount of value, cracked windscreen (small accident???) and something to do with the engine cradle/Mountings.
see its still under warranty, whats the chances Toyota would fix this under warranty? what's Toyotas after sales like usually?

what do you guys think? I mean a demo version usually goes for a lot more without all the extras this has,
and I think I could definitely finance this and drive a demo model at a reasonable price.
 

Maruti Suzuki Celerio now gets 6 airbags as standard - Team-BHP​

Maruti Suzuki has launched the 2025 edition of the Celerio. The popular hatchback now gets 6 airbags as standard across all variants.

Previously, the Maruti Celerio was offered with just two airbags. Following the introduction of 6 airbags on one of its entry-level offerings, Maruti might roll out similar updates for its other small cars.

That being said, the updated safety suite comes at a cost. Maruti Suzuki has increased the prices of the Celerio by up to Rs 32,500.

The top-spec ZXi+ AMT variant commands the highest premium, followed by the LXi MT, ZXi MT and ZXi+ MT trims, whose prices have gone up by Rs 27,500 each.

The VXi AMT variant now costs Rs 21,000 more, while prices of the VXi MT and VXi CNG MT have been increased by Rs 16,000 each.

Toyota Vitz gets price cut (sort of) and extra airbags

The Toyota Vitz has quietly gained a significant safety upgrade and a longer service plan as well as a price cut (well, sort of) that officially makes it SA’s cheapest new car…

The Toyota Vitz is now officially South Africa’s cheapest new car after the Japanese firm’s local division not only added extra safety features and a longer standard service plan but also cut the budget hatchback’s price – well, sort of (we’ll explain shortly).

Yes, Toyota SA Motors has quietly adjusted the respective list prices of each of the 3 derivatives in its Vitz line-up, with the entry-level Vitz 1.0 now pegged at R178 800 (down some R11 100). That means its starting price is a mere R100 less than that of Suzuki’s S-Presso 1.0 GL (R178 900), thus giving it the official title of Mzansi’s cheapest new car.

Meanwhile, the Vitz 1.0 XR now comes in at R209 900, having benefited from a R10 000 price cut. Finally, the Vitz 1.0 XR AMT tops the portfolio at R224 900, some R15 000 more affordable than before (for the record, the X-Cite derivatives introduced in September 2023 have since fallen away). As such, the Vitz undercuts the Suzuki Celerio (which currently runs from R188 900 to R225 900) on which it’s based.

So, why do we say this “sort of” amounts to a price cut? Well, though Toyota SA Motors left the Vitz’s list price unchanged between its May 2023 introduction and this latest adjustment, it offered a circa-R20 000 “promotional rebate” (also described by the brand as a “deal assist” or “special offer”) from at least August 2023. So, technically speaking, the Vitz was available from as little as R169 899 for nearly 2 years.

Toyota Vitz now South Africa’s cheapest car, gains safety kit and longer service plan

The Toyota Vitz is a popular contender in South Africa’s budget hatch market and now the company is sweetening the deal further with a price reduction and additional safety features.

Toyota has quietly implemented these changes, as first reported by Cars.co.za, with the base model is now listed at R178,800, representing a reduction of R11,100 from its previous official retail price.

We say officially because technically, Toyota did offer a long-running promotion that saw it offered at R169,900 since August 2023, as IOL previously reported.

The more generously appointed Vitz 1.0 XR manual now retails for R209,900, which is R10,000 less than before, while the AMT version is yours for R224,900, which represents a saving of R15,000. The previous ‘X-Cite’ variant, which featured in the middle of the price range, falls away with this latest upgrade.

The base-level Vitz 1.0 is officially South Africa’s cheapest new car, narrowly undercutting the Suzuki S-Presso 1.0 GL, which sells for R178,900, and interestingly the Vitz is also R10,100 less expensive than its virtually identical Suzuki Celerio twin.

Despite the low entry price, Toyota has actually bolstered its specification, with the addition of side and curtain airbags, upping the tally from two to six, while the service plan has been extended from two-years/30,000km to four-years/60,000km.

With Maruti Suzuki of India, which builds the Vitz and Celerio, now making six airbags standard across its line-up, it’s inevitable that the extra crash bags will also feature on the Celerio in the not too distant future.
