The Toyota Vitz is another collaboration project between Toyota and Suzuki, following on from the Toyota Urban Cruiser/Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Toyota Starlet/Suzuki Baleno and Toyota Rumion/Ertiga. Essentially, the Vitz is based on the Suzuki Celerio.

What’s On Offer?

The Toyota Vitz will be available in a three-model lineup, with one engine doing duty across the range. Customers will have the choice of either a 5-speed manual gearbox or an automated manual transmission (AMT). There are two spec levels; standard and XR. There are 7 colours to choose from.

The engine is a 1.0-naturally-aspirated 3-cylinder petrol engine which has 49 kW and 89 Nm. It is front-wheel driven and Toyota claims the Vitz will consume just 4.4 L/100 km. A top speed of 160 kph is claimed and there’s a 32 litre fuel tank.

How much does the Toyota Vitz cost in South Africa?

The new Vitz is sold with a 3-year/100 000 km warranty and a 2 services/30 000 km plan.

Interestingly, the Suzuki Celerio has a similar three-model line up, priced at R178 900, R198 900 and R213 900.

Toyota Vitz prices revealed: here’s what you need to know about the brand’s cheapest car

The Toyota Vitz is set to go on sale in South Africa soon, superseding the Agya as the Japanese brand’s cheapest new vehicle on local soil.

Essentially a rebadged Suzuki Celerio and hailing from the latter’s Maruti division in India, the Toyota Vitz is unique to South Africa.

The Toyota Vitz will be available in three flavours, with the standard 1.0-litre manual model commanding a price tag of R189 900. Buyers with deeper pockets can also opt for an XR flagship model, priced at R219 900 in manual form and R239 900 when fitted with the AMT automated gearbox.

However, the Toyota comes at a premium over its Celerio twin, which is priced between R178 900 and R213 900. That said, it is cheaper than the Agya it replaces, which was listed R206 000 during its run-out phase.

 
I would rather buy the Suzuki Celerio.

It is exactly the same vehicle. Interior is identical to the Celerio.

Celerio is R21 000 cheaper on the GL/XR manual.

DRIVEN: New Toyota Vitz is a decent package for the price

Toyota South Africa continues to head the vehicle sales charts by a large margin every month, thanks to its diverse range of vehicles and, of course, its reputation for reliability.

The collaboration with Maruti Suzuki of India has also paid off handsomely when you consider the Toyota Starlet (Baleno), Rumion (Ertiga) and the new Urban Cruiser (Grand Vitara) that recently replaced the Brezza-based original version.

Joining the fray and launched locally is the Toyota Vitz, based on the Suzuki Celerio. It replaces the Agya as an entry-level car in the Toyota fraternity.

Toyota Vitz is now South Africa’s cheapest new car thanks to special offer

The Toyota Vitz hit South African streets back in April with a price tag that undercut its Agya predecessor, and now the little Suzuki-based hatch is even cheaper, for a limited time.

According to the company’s local website, the Toyota Vitz line-up now costs exactly R20 000 less thanks to a special offer.

This means that the base 1.0 manual model is now priced at R169 900, which means it ties with the smaller Suzuki S-Presso as South Africa’s cheapest new passenger car.

The discount also applies to the higher-specced 1.0 XR models, which you can now buy for R199 900 in manual form and for R214 900 as an auto.
