Hi,

Sorry, should have put this in the sub-forum.

I am unable to activate facetime on my iphone4. Vodacom subscription.
It just keeps saying waiting for activation ...

Anyone know how to solve this ?

Solved.
I tried connecting to a different wireless network and that solved the problem.
I've also managed to get Facetime for the Mac to finally authorize by connecting to my mifi.
I'm sure it was all a port problem :)

I heard that it can also be a DNS problem. I had to set a friends DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 before facetime would log in on her MacBook Pro...

we could not get it to activate behind the proxy server on wifi.

but we solved it this morning with a open wireless network.
you have to flick the switch to allow facetime to on in Settings > Phone and insert your number.
you have to wait 5-10 minutes for activation.
it might also prompt you for a response to a sms network charge to activate...

Dos FaceTime only works win apple products only?what i mean can face time with a 3G video calling enables phone

Currently only Apple devices. Apple did make the video codecs etc. available to other Manufacturers/developers so that they can implement it too - will just have to wait and see if it happens...

Okay, n00b here. Do you have to install facetime, get it from the store or is it already installed the phone?

Built into the phone... (iPhone 4 that is)
If you want it on your Mac then you have to download the client...

K, This lady god her Iphone and I updated it with 4.2.1, but I don't see an icon for facetime and don't see that option when at the contacts. :wtf:

It's an iPhone 4, right?

When you open a contact (where you see their numbers) and scroll down I see four buttons: "Text Message", "FaceTime", "Share Contact" and "Add to Favourites". What do you see?

Yes, it is the Iphone 4. Will have to wait for her to get to work and then I will have a look.

Skype also doesn't have a video call function on the phone...

Edit: This is what I see:

And you checked that in Settings, Phone, Facetime was set to On? I had it turn off when I swopped SIM cards in my phone so I had to go there and turn it back on.

It is now. :o

Now I get the same message as the OP and I don't block anything on our internet, except for facebook.

Still the same thing. with or without proxy settings... Does your ISP have to do something for facetime?

Not that I am aware of, it should just work. I have had intermittent issues getting it going, but came right in the end, not sure how. Can't say I have much of a use for it really, don't need to Facetime people I know with iPhone4's.

Weird - checked my iPhone 4 today and the Facetime was also turned off... wonder if it's automatically turned off on 4.2.1?
