Is anyone else using a Capitec Debit card (which is also a Mastercard) to automatically pay Afrihost each month? Since I've moved to Capitec a while ago, my payments fails each time. When I then attempt to manually settle the account with the exact same card, the payment goes through - no issues.

I've checked that they have my correct details, but this keeps happening. It's frustrating as there are escalating administration fees (basically a penalty for failed payment), which now already amounts to R20 this month.

I remember that my card has a feature called Mastercard securecode. Might this security feature somehow be responsible for Afrihost's inability to automatically collect payment from me?

I've contacted Afrihost accounts, but thought I'd ask here in the meantime.

My payment via my Discovery card (VISA) also failed for no reason. It was working fine for months before that.

Not sure if its related , i see webafrica does not allow cheque and debit cards for automatic payments anymore.

Was force to changed from my cheque card to my credit card for auto billing.

Hetzner has also stopped accepting both credit and debit cards for automatic monthly payments. They only accept debit order payments now.

I signed up with my current(Cheque) account card with WebAfrica. When I saw your post I checked and my payment went trough.

How did they notify you about the change? I liked to know if I should contact them in this regards as to not incur additional cost.

no i just saw the payment did not go off , and i logged in on the control panel , where it says only credit cards are accepted and not cheque cards or debit cards.

I did not get charged extra.

Thanks for all the replies.

It sounds like there capitec's card should work just fine. I'm still waiting to hear back from Afrihost Accounts support. It's been about 24 hours since I logged a ticket. How long do they usually take to respond?

You'd need to get more info from the bank as to why the transactions are failing. Unless we see massive transaction failures across the board, it's more likely to be a specific case.

What I can do is give you the specific error message we're getting for you to query with the bank. Have got your PM, so I'll give you all the info I have there.

I just settled the account with the exact same card details that failed to make the payments in the first place. It' really puzzling to me. Like Afriman suggested, I'll try to get the bank to decipher the transaction error code - hopefully that may give some insight.

I've now had to pay Afrihost R40 extra this month in admin charges. I'm quite annoyed by this as it took their useless support staff 3 days to respond to my query, and only after I sent them a second message. The support staff promptly closed the ticket without providing any real insight or suggestions.

Given the fact that I'm anyway struggling with throughput (probably congestion on MTN's towers) I'll probably cancel later this month. It was good while it lasted.

If you had sufficient funds in your account and the transaction failed for whatever reason there is no way in hell you should accept being charged an admin fee by Afrihost. I would fight it just on principle.

I have sufficient funds. I mentioned my disappointment to Afriman, but he only suggested I take the issue to my bank. Which I will do. But it irks me that their support took their bloody time getting back to me, only to not really help me anyway, and then charge more fees for late payment.

I'll do what we all need to do and vote with my wallet. Cell C's Giga 200 promotion is still available and should work well. I'll just have to test their throughput in my area first.
