Fake SAA pilot flew under radar

If you said to me here's a young pilot that just got his ATPL with the minimum flight hours and here we have an older CPL pilot with 20yrs experience, thousands of flight hours far exceeding the minimum ATPL practical requirements and he has a clean flight record, which one would you prefer to fly with when a situation develops up there?

I'm gonna pick the guy old guy without the ATPL every single time regardless of whether he cheated on the ATPL part. I have far more trust in experience than a guy with peach fluff that just passed an exam.

If the young guy got his qualification honestly I would prefer him, what else wouldn't this oke do to get out of a bind? Dishonest is dishonest. A dishonest person cannot be trusted. And it seems like he had to fake it every year, year on year. No thank you.

Fark no!

I will always pick experience above qualification. Book smart does not apply to real world scenarios. I have learned this through many years. Even after studying, 90% of what you learned are locked away in a deep black hole never to be used again. Experience trumps education time after time.

But would you pick dishonest over honest?

Depending on the job I guess.

If I'm going to be 30 000 feet of the ground, I would rather have a dishonest experienced pilot than an Honest Greenhorn. But that's just me.

I don't know how accurate that is coming from that forum. The reason he did not accept promotion to captain is he would have had to resubmit the ATPL amongst other things which he obviously tried to avoid.

Considering the dishonest pilot in this scenario and I are in the proverbial 'same boat' with a common cause to get out alive, I'll go with him ;)

Yeah I would prefer not to have my whisky spilled up there by some greenhorn, need a cool cucumber

A senior SAA pilot, who had been asked to resign earlier this year after it was found that he had flown commercial airplanes for more than 20 years with a fake licence, has been taken into custody, police have said.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Vish Naidoo said William Chandler appeared in Kempton Park Magistrate's Court on Monday and was released on R5 000 bail.

Naidoo said Chandler's attorneys handed him over to police at OR Tambo International Airport.

"This was after they were informed that we were looking to arrest the man on charges of forgery and uttering."

Strange how none of those that raped the SAA & defrauded them properly never ever even got charged. It's like the entire state capture thing, the cadres walk free and we prosecute the white guys so it looks like we're anti corruption to our voters and doing something about the rot.

If I hear fake license one more time I'm gonna puke. He had a valid cpl as per the caa.

Agreed. I'm tired of telling people every day that he was a dinkum qualified licensed pilot with a genuine legal legit CPL.

The same would happen anywhere else in the world.

This is you being a victim again.

The pilot may have had his CPL but he did not have his Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL). He forged that. So in essence it is a fake licence. He is getting the punishment he deserves for forgery and uttering as well as receiving a salary that was not due to him.

same here - experience counts more when you are 30 000 up in the air

Zuma's actions also haven't killed anyone, yet I would love to see him hang.
The problem with Zuma is that he may die of AIDS or old age before he gets the punishment he deserves. I just read he is attempting to obtain a permanent stay in prosecution against him. How many millions of rands does he still have access to in order to fund his legal defense? The state capture inquiry is blowing the lid of so much of crap that has happened in the country.

Anyway, this pilot shouldn't get away with what he did and he will in all likelihood either receive a suspended sentence or a fine or both.
