Fake Windows updates possible says Comodohacker

nothing like a cocky hacker ending up in the slammer.

the real 1337 ones you never hear about. and im talking about the big balled introverts attacking layer 2.

yeah this idiot made the biggest mistake of them all, saying that it can be done, if it's possible microsoft will have it sorted out now.

Bit of a catch 22, if windows releases a patch/fix for this, how do you know it won't download the hackers malware as well?

My Windows updates and I have the… uhm… err… “original”. Does this mean...? UBER SAD FACE ):

For this to happen more than one thing would have to happen :

1. He need to gain entry into the Windows Updates server in order to plant his malware
2. If 1. fails, then he'll need to manipulate Windows PC's in order so that they'll download updates other than the trusted source.

But it'll be a bit of a bummer if he succeeds with his evil plans.

He does not need access to the Windows Update servers. There are other ways to distribute malware via Windows Update, by using DNS cache poisoning, man-in-the-middle attacks, and several other clever tricks.

Whats this world becoming?

I've had enough kuk wid my computer. finally got it going.

turned off my window's update..:)

So now you have left your pc with even more vulnerabilities than if you just left it on. Close the door for one hacker... open a few windows for others :)

Sounds like a lot of hassle to exploit a couple of MS boxes. Not very discreet either.

Who cares. I'll just reinstall all my sheet and be back on line next day. The effort uber hackers put in vs. the amount of effort users need to get back on their feet is so disproportionate I don't know why they still bother. Shouting for attention in their own special way. Tell tale signs of an inferiority complex right there.

unskinnybob:
Reinstalling won't help squat if they've already stolen all your passwords and banking details.

For this reason it is important that you ensure that your operating system & web browser are up to date with the latest security updates.
