Ive just emailed your complaints section.

I am by no means a heavy user, My average d/l on my 4mbit service has been 150GB the last few months. I have only managed 1.5GBs since yesterday - why?

My topgear that started this morning has had an average of 10kb/s and is currently only doing 20kb/s. What has happened over the last month that you are shaping me like this? All I wanted was to get home from work and watch the damn thing like I used to be able to, now I have to wait till tomorrow (hopefully!).

Wait, oh, its now at 25kb/s. Rubbish I tell you.

PS before anyone starts talking about seeds etc, this has 160 seeds and 90 peers, it always runs max when the shaping allows. Its 9pm FFS and its going at, let me check, oh now its 9kb.s.

Ive tried rebooting my router etc but to no avail.

Edit

Average has actually been 8kb/s. Ive upload far more than I download.

My illegal downloads aren't dowloading fast enough. This is BS!! I demand to speak to your leader.

*facepalm*

I've also been haing crappy speeds regardless of time. Mweb seems to think I have a 512 line now and not 4meg. They really should hae priced the 4meg package better to avoid this. I mean R539 isn't even double the price of 512 at 299.

Sigh.

Try newsgroups, seriously. Even the bog standard MWEB news server is just fine for most (recent) things.

Here you go : Link
Doubt that would help as he is probably referring to the current topgear, aka season 15 which won't be out yet since the season is still happening

LOL, you can also try DSTV
^^ id thumbsuck a guess and say they are still way behind.

@OP
As said already try usenet, why on earth people use torrents is beyond me unless its for linux distro's

I tried news servers for a bit, but no thanks. Torrents for me.

Perhaps you should switch to 384kbps ADSL instead? :D

I've pulled like 1.2GB today on my 384kbps ADSL without even trying that hard.
btw: 150GB is actually quite a lot of data already.

Top Gear has a tendency to download slowly in allot of cases
If you want to get it quickly try just after 2 Monday morning until about 6:30
That is when the hardcore users have it and then it gets throttled because there is a huge amount of new people trying to get it and not enough seeds

I compared it to Haven’s download yesterday
Top Gear was doing 20 – 80 KB/s
Haven got 350KB/s at the same time

Oh and I just did these for testing purposes I deleted it immediately after that :p

nah, it BS

Im on a 384k line & if i want to dload from Mega Uplaod, its shaped(mostly), but the file only downloads about 2mb then fails.

I want Mweb to answer : if i am willing to download a 20 mb file over 4 hours! - then why can i not do it, why does the downlaod fail after 2 mb?

I mean, I am willing to accept shaping on these dloads, but al least let us download the whole thing!

You tried using something like free download manager?

This kind of a timeout on a download is likely not to be the result of the ISP intentionally dropping the file. It is more likely related to a timeout somewhere between you and the source, for example. Or a broken file in a local or remote cache.

Not for me. LAst month by the time I woke up it was finished. Even if I have 4 concurrent torrents my P2P is shaped to 20kb/s.

are download managers not against 'The Terms' ?

It's not compulsory when using a download manager to queue up 1TB of HTTP downloads and hit the "Download all at line speed" button.

What's stopping you using a download manager to download a few files?

well the line I downloaded it from is not shaped (unshaped business package I use at work) which would be why I still get the great speed during the day for the other stuff
but Topgear was still slow because I started it after 6
if I started it earlier while there is quite a few seeds and not that many leachers I would have completed it in under a hour

Well, we all thought that was 'OK' just a few weeks ago, but now it looks like just 400gb is enough to get you booted; without breaking the shaping rules.

The "periodic, active use" part of the T&Cs can be interpreted as not allowing such unattended internet activity -not that I agree with it.

I have not heard of anyone who uses a download manager to download that have been booted if they weren't bypassing the shaping
the only reason you would get booted is if you use a external service to download and you then use a connection to that that bypasses the shaping
