Farm Attacks

TX Keep in mind though: - Wisdom for some is common sense for others.

You do realise you are talking to the upper 10% of the population here right? The people you are talking to in here probably pays about 60% of the country's tax. So your wise wisdom is kinda misplaced.

I don't think it's wisdoms he is full of.

Govt must be very disappointed in the effectiveness of the CPF's etc. They disbanded the Kommandos because they were too effective.
I doubt that's why they disbanded the kommandos. It's more likely they feared them. Government was uncomfortable with the idea of an armed militia largely sourced from a formerly hostile military. They worried it could open up the way to insurgency.

Exactly. Why do you chaps in SA have to police yourselves? You should pay your taxes so that the government can implement an effective police force! Just a thought....
Curious here. Why are you so interested in the going ons of RSA when you position yourself as an outsider? And for a foreigner you know a bit too much about this country. You don't sound like a casual observer at all. Is your persona made up? Can't figure out why you'd construct such a persona though

Communities just need to start up something like the kommandos again. Just don't be stupid and call it that or boeremag and everything should be fine.

But failed to replace it with an effective alternative while singing hatesongs about killing farmers.

CPF's are a great alternative. If it's run wrong, obviously there is nothing anyone can do about it. But a well run CPF is an amazing safety feature for farmers. By the farmers for the farmers.

I WATCHED MY BOSS GETTING KILLED

A CATTLE herder witnessed his employer being shot dead allegedly by a white man as they went past his plot.Tshukela Bisani, 53, was shot and killed at Villa Liza in Boksburg – on the East Rand – a week ago. He was helping his cattle herder lead his cattle home when the incident occurred.

The cattle herder, who cannot be named to protect his identity as he was the only witness in the matter, said the incident took place about 9am last Sunday. “I was guiding the over 50 cattle from behind while the owner was in front. I saw the white man coming out of his plot shouting but did not hear what he said exactly. “He held a pump gun in his hand. He went straight to my employer, the next thing I saw him falling on his back and the white man followed and fell on top of him. It was as though they were fighting.”

The man said he moved closer and asked the white man why he had attacked his employer. “He then turned to me and started to shout. I could not understand what he said because he spoke English. He pointed a handgun at me and I ran away. I shouted for help and people came out. They called the ambulance and police.”

The man said the white man ran to his property and returned in a vehicle. “I then went back to my employer and I asked him what happened. He said to me ‘the white man shot me’. The white man then put him in his car and rushed him to hospital. I picked up his T-shirt and found that it had blood and a hole on the stomach [part],” he said.

He said the white man was later arrested and he saw him handing his gun over to the police. Bisani’s nephew Jongikhaya Nondala said his uncle died about an hour later in hospital. Nondala said they had not had any communication from the police since. “The investigating officer never contacted us. We were shocked when we heard that the man was released on bail. We wanted to go to court and hear what he has to say.”

Community leaders said they wanted the white man gone. Jonas Mofokeng said the white man did not want [black] people anywhere near his plot. “He is our neighbour but he does not like us. His conduct is proof that apartheid still exists. We are angry and we want him to leave this place,” he said.

Another community leader, Kleinbooi Mollo, said they were not happy. “Apartheid still exists. The whites are still fighting us. He accuses people of trespassing. He must take his properties and leave,” he said. Police spokeswoman constable Nkemeleng Mabula said they were investigating a case of murder. “The 58-year-old suspect appeared in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court today [yesterday] and he was granted R1 500 bail. The case was postponed for further investigations,” she said.

Mabula said the family should come forward with any complaints about the case.

And if the farmers don't care enough about their own security (with this genocide going on against them after all as some claim) then we can't force them to care, just like they can't force the government to do its job.

They need to organise and do bulk buys of radios and gate motors (so they don't have to get out of vehicle for gates at farmhouse) and electric fence supplies and CCTV and whatever else and secure themselves

Farms I know can be a completely different animal as opposed to the small holdings. Having to drive 20 minutes just to reach your neighbour can be an issue too. But I know of farmers who do night patrols in shifts and these do have a direct affect on the crime in those areas. Unfortunately farming communities can't rely on the police as they are either too far away or already busy on another call in town. Doesn't mean the Police doesn't try, logistically it's just impossible to have good response times on farms.

People in suburbs realised long ago that they need to take their security into their own hands. Farmers especially the elderly ones are soft targets and they just need to get organised together with their families and community. The attitude of moaning about government is completely counter productive is this case.

If you ask them they'll probably tell you that the police are there to ensure everyone's safety including farmers. It's a political hot potato they'll not admit to though. They can't be seen to be protecting farmers while more of the majority get murdered daily. Politicians are selfish and only act when a situation is in their interest or threatens their interest. Just as they can't admit to losing the war on crime neither will they admit that farmers may be in need of special attention with regards to safety

Distances and travel time are an issue, that's why I'm saying they need to harden their homes and yards as well. They can have a 1000 guns in the safe, but if the crim shoots you in the stomach when you open the back door and those guns are still in the safe they have no use...

I am working (and reside) most of the time in East Africa and have close friends in South Africa. I visit SA quite often. And, just like you, I chose not to make my identity public. oh, I bothered to read quite a bit of your posts on this forum. Your persona is quite ineresting. And please, use PM for personal chats!

That is exactly the thought that prompted me questioning you - it is common sense. So if you know a bit about south africa, you know how incompetent the government is, how rampant crime is around here, how farmers are targeted due to their isolation and how poorer communities are targeted due to their lack of security - yet you still chose to make a snotty comment.

Communities come together to help one another, no person can stand alone

+1
Well, I know "quite a bit" but not everything. Who exactly is targeting the farmers? Government, racists, fellow farmers, common thieves ?
All/None of the above?
