Man shot in face by 80-year-old KZN farmer in stable condition - police

A 44-year-old man who was shot in the face by an 80-year-old farmer in Bergville is in a stable condition in hospital, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Tuesday.

Police Brigadier Jay Naicker said that the farmer shot the man on Monday after he had entered the farm to collect his goats which had been illegally confiscated by the farmer.

The farmer was later killed in a shootout with police who had come to arrest him.

When asked by News24 whether the farmer and the victim had fought before the shooting at about 11:00, Naicker said investigations into the matter would reveal more details.

"The investigation has been taken over by IPID and we can't comment because the man is still in hospital," he said.

Robbers make off with everything from food to solar panels in Joubertina farm attack

A manhunt for a gang of robbers who held up a Joubertina couple and ransacked a farm house - stealing everything from food to solar panels - has entered its second day, Eastern Cape police confirmed on Saturday.

Police are on the hunt for four suspects who tied up the husband and wife and assaulted the man, fortunately not resulting in serious injury.

Police spokesperson Captain Gerda Swart said the two were in the caretakers section of a farm in Kouga at about 19:00 on Thursday when their bedroom window was broken and an unknown man climbed through.

Three other suspects then allegedly broke down their bedroom door and gained entry.

"One of the suspects was armed with a knife and threatened the couple. The suspects accosted forced the 50-year-old [man] to the main house, where they took household items [such as] TVs and the microwave, groceries and solar panels," she said.

Cyril Ramaphosa and the story of the frogs in the water

What then are we to make of this paragraph in Dr Oriani-Ambrosini's intriguing memoirs?

"In his brutal honesty, Ramaphosa told me of the ANC's 25-year strategy to deal with the whites: it would be like boiling a frog alive, which is done by raising the temperature very slowly. Being cold-blooded, the frog does not notice the slow temperature increase, but if the temperature is raised suddenly, the frog will jump out of the water. He meant that the black majority would pass laws transferring wealth, land, and economic power from white to black slowly and incrementally, until the whites lost all they had gained in South Africa, but without taking too much from them at any given time to cause them to rebel or fight."

How many years now? Or when exactly does the 25 year strategy start?

Can the part-time Africans leave already and leave proper Africans (black, white and everything in between) behind please. This constant whining; citing propaganda garbage that can't be proven, is annoying.

Crime affects us all. We go to bed wondering if relatives are safe wherever they are.

Poor Cyril - Zuma turned the heat up way too quickly and messed with the plan. I've been committed to leaving soon as possible for a while now.

for no other reasons than safety and cost of living, best thing to do sadly

TV's, solar panels and food? Odd farm attack this one.

Why? They cut down traffic lights to steal the cables. There on the R512 close to the Lion Park and also at the bridge over the N14.

They broke down the concrete pole housing the CCTV cameras, powered by solar panels and batteries in a box at the top to steal that and not have to worry about their smash-and-grab crimes being caught on camera at the same intersections.

Most recently they did the same to the traffic lights on the M57 and Ruth First St near Tembisa (oh, and the cables to that top of the street lights, that power the street lights, was stolen too). The scene shown below is just not there any more:
