Fascist America, in 10 easy steps

Without looking at the guardian article (maybe later) and is it really necessary?

The "muslim issue," ie, Israel, the middle east (even Egypt, a thread a while ago, those latest bombs.) 'And other countries,' have been denied the results of their elections. Their citizens have been put in jail without trial, houses destroyed, thousands of children killed, etc. (This being Israel and the issues of 'the Palestinians.) 'Terrorist Groups' like Hamas etc, arose to 'protest' wrong, a wrong that is displayed on our tv's, in our newspapers, on a almost daily basis. I have never understood how Europe can stand by and watch thousands of civilians (parents and kids) being killed. Oh but they are terrorists, without looking to the fundamental issues of why that is. Yes, I understand Israeli's have suffered terrible bombing, rocketing, etc., but there is never a look to the base of the problem/issues and no 'compunction' to solve it. IOW "this enemy" has been created over many years by a deliberate ignoring of elections (witness the last Palestinian elections,) and by a deliberate policy of "subjugation," then wonder why there are suicide bombings (and the extremity.) Terrorists take action because they feel they have no choice and no other way. And 'any proposed' solutions over the years are a fiasco (otherwise they would be solutions.) And Israel continues to bulldoze houses, continues to 'neutralise' enemies and destroy their families, daily! So, add 'many years' up (a basic failure of any real want to solve a problem) and a vastly expanded Israel 'and you have the muslim enemy' we see today. Radically motivated, and extreme. Then of course add Afghanistan into the mix (and all the other countries who have muslim populations, their own problems, and their own perceived lack of 'support' by the west: and we have what we have today. A population who sympathise globally while the west continues in it's merry way: sanctions, punitive actions [perhaps in response to bombing] and the rest of the heady mix.) No, the world is not a better place.

9/11 and Afghanistan are simply the cherry; the war in Iraq adds the icing, the general middle east (and the actions of Israel) provide the filling, and here we are. Fighting a supposed "global war," when in fact if somebody listened to somebody, or somebody spoke to somebody, instead of the stonewalling of the west (we don't negotiate with terrorists,) then we would not be where we are today. Years, and years of lying, false wars, and the unnecessary deaths of hundreds and thousands of people (do we wonder people get upset, that they resort to suicide bombing?!) So, there is your global enemy: one "we" created. Why? Well, let's look to Israel 'cause it surely all starts there! And has so ever since I first walked this earth!

*Invoke a terrifying internal and external enemy

Yes, one we created (how we created it is certainly a topic for discussion) but let's not be fooled, what we see today is the result of years of neglect, years of 'antagonism' and years of falsehood. Suicide bombers are not born: they are made (primarily through their own beliefs and the injustice they see around them.) So yes, when this 'enemy' crashed airliners into buildings then we have a clear, identifiable target, both to the public and the military. Let's go kick their arses in 'stan, oh ja, and Iraq too. Oh and Iran as well. Sickening! All based on lies and falsehood and denying people their right to exist.

*Create a gulag

If the "freedom wall" in Israel is not creating a gulag then WTF is? If this "new" Baghdad wall is not creating a gulag then WTF is? If the border controls and proposals for national ID is not creating an electronic gulag then what is? If the surveillance society is not an electronic gulag then what is? If terrorist watch lists and surveillance of your own citizens (and throwing them in jail) is not a gulag then what is? Yes, the gulags are all around us (and are becoming more entrenched daily.) If all goes to plan we will have global dna databases (already started in UK,) and the final result of barcodes stamped on forearms, the world gulag, the end result of the New World Order. (On one hand it can be argued these are 'good things,' but they are easily open to abuse and easily manipulated by those in power, the terrorist watch list in the US being the classic example: obscure professors and lecturers stopped from travelling and questioned for hours. Or citizens being silenced, believe it, it does happen in america.)

*Develop a thug caste

Well the thug caste is everyone not us (ie, white, fair skinned and preferably english speaking.) Also if you have an opinion you are obviously a thug, I mean, what was that classic line, "you disgust me."

*Set up an internal surveillance system

Done. (If this is not true of the UK and not true of america, with illegal wiretaps, illegal warrants, and surveillance out of control then what is?)

*Harass citizens' groups

Oh, done over many years already. The watchlist again.

*Engage in arbitrary detention and release

Done. If not what of the many cases?

*Target key individuals

Well Martin Luther and Malcolm X would certainly fall under this label. Anybody notice the number of 'celebrities' who get busted for drugs, or the american professors silenced 'cause 'they' don't like their opinions?

*Control the press

Done. Admitted. Nevermind the fiasco of Fox News.

*Dissent equals treason

Bush's latest laws certainly cover this one.

*Suspend the rule of law

Same as above.

In support of this post I've put together a page of links here (from my bookmarks.) This is only scratching the surface of what seems a far deeper story.

superb post Kilo.

Unfortunately, Alan will post soon with another of his idiotic posts and spoil this thread. I wish for once he could actually use facts in his debating instead of the the predictable sarcasm and insults he uses. Oh perhaps he is incapable of having an intelligent debate.

Having read the article on Unlawful combatants, there is a sub section on Prisoners of war, and one of the points is, i quote

d) That of conducting their operations in accordance with the laws and customs of war.

What on earth, are the laws and customs of war, other than to kill your enemy at all cost and with any and all means available?

Terrorism by its very nature , is psychological warfare, thereby surely making them combatants in the "WAR" on terror.

The war on terrorism isn't a real war so anyone caught can only be treated as a civilian.

If all goes to plan we will have global dna databases (already started in UK,)
The problem with large DNA databases is the number of false hits increases as the database size increases. It is a very serious problem and like the major problems with techniques like fingerprinting the authorities do not want to acknowledge the problem.

*Set up an internal surveillance system

Done. (If this is not true of the UK and not true of america, with illegal wiretaps, illegal warrants, and surveillance out of control then what is?)
The UK has long been a surveillance state. Citizens are spied on everywhere by the government.

*Harass citizens' groups

Oh, done over many years already. The watchlist again.
Being a member of the ACLU is considered suspicious. In fact any organisation that tries to defend the the basis of the ideals of freedom.

*Engage in arbitrary detention and release

Done. If not what of the many cases?
Tony Blair was very keen on detention without trial. Fortunately he was stopped.

*Dissent equals treason

Bush's latest laws certainly cover this one.
Tony Blair was also very keen on passing laws to make criticising the government's actions a crime.

The UK government has had strong police state tendencies at least since the Thatcher days. The US government has long been fundamentally opposed to the freedom ideals on which the country was founded. I don't think either country is yet close to becoming a full police state, but there are worrying trends, and not just in those two countries.

Silence from the litany of trolls.

You be the enemy, and us be them!!

"You disgust me!"

(thanks for the *positive* comments guys, appreciated)

@noxibox: most problems are shallow for computers of increased powers

The [-]guy[/-] author handcrafts 10 criteria and then shoehorns a nation into it.

Hey look, it fit - how amazing.
Well, if you have issues with the criteria, perhaps you'd like to present a superior alternative?

I don't need to supply alternatives because I dont agree with the premiss. I dont believe America is headed towards being a fascist state.

I'm also not punting a book due out in September.

I didn't say you agreed with the premise that America is headed towards being a facist state, I'm asking you for a list of 10 things which you believe would be a better indication of whether or not any particular state is infact sliding towards fascism.

Do you think she didnt have a particular country in mind when she crafted those specific criteria?

To be frank I dont think I would be able to come up with 10 generic criteria. Could the author? I dont know.

Whether or not she had a particular country in mind is largely irrelevant if the criteria she has set is reasonable. And frankly I can't see anything on that list that wasn't typical Nazi Germany, for instance. And looking at the list I can't see anything that could be removed without substancially weakening the power that a fascist regime could enjoy.

Then our opinion on that matter would seem to differ.

On the flip side how many criteria would it take to prove that it wasnt Fascist America? One?

Hamas was formed with goal of the destruction of Israel. In any case you just have to look at the treatment of Palestinians by their very own to realise the likes of Hamas has no interest to "protest a wrong".
Riiiight.

In their eyes Israel the very state is the "wrong" and this "wrong" must "righted" with it's destruction. The "wrong" you propagate conveniently fails to mention that Israel was attacked countless times by hostile neighbours with the intent to destroy that country and kill their citizens.
And you forget to mention that Israel has countless times provoked such an attack.

That is what is causing the trouble. Until Israel is recognized as a legitimate state without the threat of her destruction then people are going to suffer the consequences. Egypt and Jordan have and look at the relative peace they have had with Israel.
Israel cannot be recognised as a legitimate state until it recognises the rights of everyone living within its borders just as Apartheid South Africa was not a legitimate state. Added to that, until Israel gives up its dream for greater Israel which is infact a threat to the existence of its neighbours (but of course nobody in the west cares about that, I mean, it's just a bunch of muslims, and there's a billion OTHER places they could go, right?), There cannot be ANY permanent peace in the region.

When these "protest" organizations brainwash 5 year olds, strap bombs to mentally challenged kids, hide their arms in amongst the population and purposely put them in the cross fire when are fighting the Israelis and amongst themselves we hear nothing from your ilk.
Take out the suicide bombings and you can easily find identical behaviour among zionists pre-1948 when they perpetrated acts of terrorism against the brits. I guess sometimes terrorism pays off. (Ironic how acts of Jewish terrorism which won them Israel as a state is today celebrated in Israel proper.)

The Palestinians themselves are "ignoring" their own elections . Hence they a fighting and killing amongst themselves.
More ignorance. Go read up on the middle east before you shoot your mouth off about stuff you obviously know little about. I'll even give you a hint on where to start : the recent agreement between Hamas and the PLO, creating in effect a unity government where Hamas has agreed to uphold ALL of the treaties and agreements that have been made by the PLO with Israel. That includes a defacto acknowledgment of Israel's existence and agreements that were reached at meetings such as the Camp David talks.

No terrorists don't act because they have no other option. They flatly refuse the option that allows the situation to improve for them. That is recognizing Israel and her safety.
Except that Israel is a racist state in which it routinely discriminates against a select portion of the population. If everybody lays down their arms and stops fighting, this inequality still exists. Without opposing that inequality, the inequality remains. The 'terrorists' have been rendered destitute via economic warfare; they have been marginalised politically socially, and that has left them one and ONLY one means of protest : violence.

They are so hell bent on her destruction from endless brainwashing that they are willing to go such extremes. If they spent as much energy on improving their own situation as they do on trying to destroy Israel things would be a lot better for them.
No it wouldn't, because whatever they managed to make for themselves would just be apropriated again. The most recent example is the additional landgrabs that took place after the apartheid wall was put into place.

Their problem with Israel and her existence.
Can't say I blame them. Israel as it exists now should not exist. (Just as China as it exists now should not exist, or Iran, or the US, or apartheid South Africa).

Yeah the extremist ideology of destroying Israel and now the western way of life.
See above.

The west has listend and found what they heard unacceptable. There is only two options available.

1) Accept the destruction of Israel and the hegemony of Islamic extremism over the world

or

2) Reject option 1 and resist it. Which is what is happeng today.

Of the two I'd take the later.
False dilemma. There is a third option, and that involves dismantling Israel as a racist state and in its place creating a nation which treats all citizens under its authority equally, thus addressing the legitimate grievances of those currently discriminated against. Unless that's what you find that unacceptable, of course, which frankly wouldn't surprise me.

Wars of aggression against Israel carried out by those that like today want her destruction. It's the same objective for the last 60 years. Unfortunately for those that strive for it, it has failed and continues to fail. While striving for this they have torn themselves apart and run themselves into the ground. Yet they still cling desperately to this goal that their ideology propagates. Hence they get more and more desperate. Those on the losing side always take the most drastic actions.
Geez, what have you been smoking?

Israel's actions are even more desperate than anything their opponents have tried. Perfect example is last year's invasion of Lebanon. Israel fired cluster bombs in such a way as to deliberately increase the dud rate of the bomblets, resulting in the creation of 1 million makeshift landmines terrorises and will continue to terrorise Lebanese civlians for years to come. The stratagem had absolutely NO tactical or strategical motive.

The Palastinians have very little left to lose. If you had any knowledge whatsoever about their daily lives, you wouldn't be posting such drivvel. Israel has made their life living hell, which has just served to increase the number of people willing to end their lives. Israel has created its enemies in the ultimate irony.

If you truly want to change that, you need to give the Palastinians something worth living for as well as give them a reasonable means of achieving it. But to do that, you first have to dismantle the Zionist desire for Greater Israel.

There is a list of criteria that has been formulated as being common amongst fascist states. That list was not compiled to apply to any specific country, but America was definitely heading down that road under Bush.

There is a list of criteria that has been formulated as being common amongst fascist states. That list was not compiled to apply to any specific country, but America was definitely heading down that road under Bush.
Then it no longer is?

What I should have said is if the US no longer fits the criteria of the set that nthdimension refers to then it would be interesting to see the similarities between the two sets.

Yeah, I was actually referring to this :

In any case you just have to look at the treatment of Palestinians by their very own to realise the likes of Hamas has no interest to "protest a wrong".
What BS.

Yeah their very existence is a provocation:rolleyes:
Indeed.

What dream of greater Israel?
You're just showing your ignorance again. Well, yet again, you can start by researching the original aims of Zionism. Or maybe David Ben Gurion's desire that Israel have 'natural borders' (which would have extended up to the Litani River in the north... guess Lebanon doesn't need all that territory according to Dave). Expansionism has been at the very heart of Israeli politics since its creation and even before. That's what all those settler camps in the occupied territories are for, btw.

For a country that has been attacked countless times and lives everyday under the threat of attack this leaves them with no choice but to occupy regions.
See, this is why I think you're thicker than a solid brickhouse. You just repeat the same rhetoric over and over again despite the fact that it has been refuted countless times in previous discussions (and already once again in my previous post.)

The problem from a military aspect for Israel is they have no "strength in depth". For a country that has been attacked countless times and lives everyday under the threat of attack this leaves them with no choice but to occupy regions. Especially since rockets are constantly lobbed into Israel.
Well, having no strength in depth leaves you two alternatives; normalise relations with your neighbours, or engage in expansionism. Too bad the jewish fundamentalists chose the latter (they want ALL the territory that is attributed to biblical Israel, and it is also from this desire that Zionism originates from).

And your rocket attack remark is a blatant red-herring. The second intafada has only started up again in the last 6 years when Ariel Sharon inflamed the Arabs by visiting the Temple Moun. And yet Israel has been land grabbing for decades before that.

But Israel continues to seek good faith by withdrawing only for those forces to move in and continue attacking them. They'll continue no matter how far back Israel pulls back until Israel is destroyed.
Rubbish. If Israel had a good faith interest in peace they would stop demolishing palestinian homes in order to build settler villages, they would actually entertain legitimate peace offerings such as those made by the Arab league and also the peace overtures made by Assad (which incidentally, the Israeli intelligence community believes to be geniune), etc. etc. Israel has always used the Arab refusal to discuss peace to justify their inexcusable behaviour, and now when the Arabs in general start making geniune peace proposals, Israel either flat out ignores it or claims that the attempts are false. Pelosi's recent visit was telling in that regard : Olmert admitted that he had no interest whatsoever in peace with Syria.

Where do you think the Jew must go?
They don't have to go anywhere. The majority of the Palestinians do not have any issues with Jews in general, as opposed to their issues with Israel itself. Sephardic Jews have been living in what is today Israel and the Occupied territories for centuries alongside Muslims and Christians with very little religious based violence... until the zionists arrived and upset the apple cart.

Interesting to note that the Sephardic Jews who actually stayed in the area were vehemently opposed to the zionist colonisation efforts that spanned from 1880-1948 as they were well aware of the hostility it would generate.

Well you see there is your problem. You want the destruction of Israel as the only option and you're not going to get it without a fight. So the Palestinians are just going to continue suffering and dying. Yours and their choice. Tragic but a fact of reality.
 I guess the blacks should just have accepted Apartheid for what is was and suffered in silence, eh?

And if you think I seek the destruction of Israel you are sorely mistaken. If Israel amends its treatment of its citizens so that all within the nation are treated equally, then I have no particular beef with its existence.

And to repeat myself : Israel has shown absolutely no interest in treating Palestinians in human beings, as has been shown repeatedly over the last 60 years, if the Palestinians stop fighting, they continue to suffer.

Yeah lets just take out suicide bombings
So it's the suicide part that bugs you, and not the death of innocent civilians? Wow, I never knew the death of muslims meant so much to you.

Seriously though, Zionists frequently bombed hotels and the like, usually targetting british colonials in their attacks. (They also targeted other jews and arabs, but that sectarian violence is a different story despite its parallels to the conflict between the various palestinian factions). The only difference is that they didn't usually commit suicide in doing it.

You the one getting yourself muddled because you lack knowledge and "don't bother" backing up your claims. :o
And yet here I am, informing you in detail about the reality of the situation, and the best you can respond with is already refuted false claims, red herrings and flippant remarks of no substance.

Ah meeting and speeches. That's all that counts. Except of coures if it's glowing Ahemi in which case it's just rehotic :o.
Yeah, except for the fact that I'm talking about signed treaties. If you'd bothered to do the research, you'd know that. But actually bothering to do research is so out of your character, I can't say I'm surprised.

We'll have to see if they stop killing each other and start focusing on sorting themselves out.
Considering that Israel has actively fomented the friction between the factions (and really, who wouldn't in the same position?) the restraint that the PLO and Hamas have shown towards each other is nothing short of amazing.

Israel is a free democratic country.
BS. Israel practices religious discrimination and segration and has two sets of rights, one which applies to favoured citizens and one which does not, and this alone disqualifies it from calling itself democratic.

Hamas on the other hand is discriminatory towards Jew and actively seeks to destroy them. They are destitute because they are thoroughly corrupt and focus all their efforts on the destruction of Israel and it now seems each other.
More bilge. You're speaking from ignorance because you haven't bothered to do any research.

There wouldn't be any "land grabs" if they stoped attacking Israel  . Simple.
Yeah, unfortunately history disagrees with you. But then it so often does.

Israel exists and sooner they accept that the sooner they can focus on digging themselves out the hole they dug for themselves.
So the world should have accepted Apartheid South Africa? Well, thankfully they didn't. We were eventually forced to change because of a war of attrition that was waged against the country. Israel is in the process of going through the same. And lastly your claim that they dug themselves into this hole is again patently false because no matter how the muslims behaved, Israel had expansionist policies set in place which it has persued since its inception and continues to do so to this very day.

Israel is a democratic state.
Wrong.

It's citizens enjoy freedoms most other nations in the ME don't offer.
Wow, finally something I can agree with. It must be a miracle.

Things like the wall will only come down when Israel feels safe and that will only happen when those that wish her destruction drop that goal.
The wall was not built to provide security, it was built to steal land; the path it took was designed to appropriate land, and there was no conflict between security and the land (that is, it could have performed its job just as well without taking the extra land).

Until then option 2 is the only one realistically available
So in other words, you are against adressing the legitimate grievances of the Palestinians.

not the same stuff you do. No doubt if I did I'd get muddled like you :o
I don't get muddled. ;) But your wild and false claims in this thread only prove that you, on the other hand, are very very muddled indeed.

What like stapping bombs to civilians including woman and kids then blowing them up?
Yup. Dropping a million landmines on a civilian populace is infinitely more desperate.

Really? Proof please.
OK.

So really, considering the wide number of sources that reported it, how on earth did you miss it in the first place? Frankly I suspect you just conveniently 'forgot' about it. Especially since I have pointed it out to you before.

So just as a side question, did you read them all? Did you read how the bombs were purposely launched at angles which increased the dud rates of the bomblets? did you read how 90% of those bombs were dropped in the last three days of the war when Israel knew that peace was imminent?

How about Hizbollah's staged scenes, hiding amongst civilians using them as human shields and lobbing rockets loaded with bearings intentionally into civilian areas to kill and maim woman and children.
Small change in comparison. Even if it were all true (which alot of it is not).

No they have made their own living hell. Their desire and energy exerted towards the destruction of Israel has left them with nothing. Yet they still carry on. To them it's Israel's destruction or their own. Pity that they have chosen that because it results in their extreme suffering.
Since you started the source game : provide a source backing up your claims regarding the source of Palestinian destitution.

Firstly they must remove what they are willing to die for. The destruction of Israel along with the religious extremism that pushes for it.
If they have nothing to live for, they'll die for anything.
