Fatal Shark Attack in Koggel Bay

Surfing and bodyboarding reminds me of bass fishing, not to be insensitive but come on, its only a matter of time till your luck runs out.

A person's chance of getting killed by a shark is less than 1 in 264.1 million.

In the United States, the annual number of people who drown is 3,306, whereas the annual number of shark fatalities is 1.

On the other hand -

100 million sharks are killed every year by humans.
 
I have an agreement with sharks. I won't go into the sea if they won't come onto the land.

Is that a surfer raping a shark or the shark raping the surfer?
South Africans are very versatile and are known to rape infants and teenagers as well as chickens, goats, donkeys and dogs.

I have never known a shark to rape swimmers and have always thought that they were quite happy to eat them without going any further.

Most yes, but some sharks are sickos.
 
Sharks don't eat humans, they don't like the taste. They just bite to find out what it is. It's just unfortunate that the bite was fatal.
 
Regarding the 5 tonnes of chum: No. The application for that permit was denied yesterday. This all has very little to do with chumming imo. The fact of the matter is that this is Great White territory. They are all over False bay. My girlfriend and I saw a GW attack a seal not far from where we were jumping from the cliffs near my place in Gordon's Bay. They are everywhere there. The population of sharks has increased due to shark conservation and increased awareness. The human population in the area has also increased a lot. This means more people and more sharks sharing the same waters. A combination that will no doubt lead to more attacks. We are not their favourite food, but we are food for them. People that don't like it, should stay out of the water. You go in there, you are taking a chance. A chance I am willing to take and still respect these magnificent creatures. I don't blame them in any way. Sincere condolences to his family, friends and fellow wave riders. Especially to his brother who must be deeply traumatised after seeing his big bro get taken like that.

The tagging of False Bay sharks for a documentary could not be linked to an attack on a body-boarder, the city of Cape Town said on Friday.

"The lack of satellite signal is clear information that the shark involved in the attack is not one of the sharks tagged by the Ocearch Research Programme," environmental policy and strategy head Gregg Oelofse said.

"Two of the sharks tagged in False Bay have given off signals and were located in the Macassar/Strandfontein area [about 20 kilometres away] shortly before the attack."

Oelofse said there was therefore no evidence to suggest the tagging of four great white sharks had any role to play in the attack.
