Favourite coffee

Hi I'm in a similar boat, starting to use my french press more often and would like some suggestions on a good burr coffee grinder rather than pre-ground.

Electric or manual would be fine by me. I'm not usually someone that goes for the most expensive option nor do I like to buy garbage that doesn't work properly or doesn't last very long. So I would like to get an idea of what a decent grinder should cost here in SA
I can only comment on this manual grinder, which i have. Works great consistent grind and nice and compact. Grinding for more than one cup does get a bit tedious, but you do get used to it.

This will be my next purchase when we go there. Heard good things

I bought this a couple weeks ago from Checkers - R220 ish

I'm also lazy, so I just went with
10397978EA-20190726-Media-checkers515Wx515H

Also Checkers, R149

Recently got this (avanti original beans)

Quite nice imho...

Haven't seen that one. Burr?

EDIT: It's R249.99 at Checkers now. Can't tell if it's burr or blade though.
My guess would be blade from looking at it, if it was bur surely there would be some adjustment control

I think they pretty much the same just different hopper size and collection basket.

Re: manual burr grinders:

I have one but with a kitchenFX logo on it, and it works fine enough. The knob on the handle has a tendency to come loose now and then, so you keep having to rescrew it in.

I don't recommend the Bialetti. It looks nice, but the knob on the handle is rivetted in (IIRC), and once it goes, it goes, and you can't get it back on. And it will come loose.

I actually wanted to mail them about brew methods so I'll do that. Thanks
They are super helpful with advice on brewing methods, coffee is a seriously big deal to them. I only know the owner through a local cycling forum but he has dished out tons of advice on there over the last few years.

Quaffee have some decent priced single and blend origin coffee/beans from Africa and S America...they can grind to your requirements as well and deliver ( free of charge if fairly local )

I can recommend them.

For those with a blade grinder.

James is worth following on Youtube he has some great vlogs on coffee.

Hi guys

For the last few months, I've been buying pre-ground coffee and using a french press. Its been good, but I've been wondering about buying a grinder and whole beans rather than pre-ground.

How much of a difference will this make? I'm not a huge coffee aficionado, just looking for a very decent cup.
Huge difference.

See if you can find this one:

Although I won't pay more than R1300
