Automatic. That's a different story. You just press a button and don't really have control then.
Haha once you go manual you never go back! I have been manual for about 2 years now with a nice burr grinder:So I have a Miele bean-to-cup machine but now, after many years, want a manual espresso machine.
On the topic of my automatic machine, I spent two weeks in Italy 2 years ago where I had what was simply the best coffee I've had anywhere in the world. Upon my return I realised that my machine was not set up properly. Anyway, I now have it making near perfect espressos but now it's time to go manual.

I got a Breville BES870XL Barista Express as a gift yesterday and I have to admit, the coffee tastes absolutely amazing.
It's the main bean I drink, Deluxe Coffee is pretty nice, especially for the price.Tell us how you like that!
I just got two bags of Truth Antithesis.

Trying these out. New roastery in the midlands
I prefer a medium roast. Flavors come through.
Dark roasts taste like charcoal

Ah okay. That is not Midlands. That is close to Cathkin Park. Was wondering why I haven't spotted them.
I don't think at this price point it would make that much of a difference having a 9 bar vs 15 bar. I started out with a similar spec machine from DeLonghi (the Icona) a few years back and I was very happy with it. Bought a R3500 grinder to pair with it (entry level burr). I would recommend starting with a Breville BES860 or 870 because it already comes with a grinder, and you can find a used one for about R5000. I sold my BES870 for R3500 last year, but I was already the second owner of the machine. It's a fantastic machine to get you started in the espresso world.Okay, so I should look elsewhere for a 9 bar machine, then.
