FB Messenger Lite alternative - non resource hog

Hi there

FB messenger lite has been shut down.

They recommend switching to full messenger but I recall it being a bloated resource hog. Is this still the case?

I do not use FB itself, only need the messenger for marketplace ie chatting to buyers sellers.

Is there viable alternatives that are better than full messenger.

Installing an older version of Messenger Lite works for now.

Old version still works, but best to check early.
