I was wondering if anyone had any advice for me on how i can get over my fear of flying? I am incredibly scared to fly and due to this i have never stepped foot on a plane. Anyone have the same problem? I've heard hypnosis may work or cognitive training but i am just not sure.

I suppose i could just ask the doctor to give me something for when i fly. Do sedatives really calm you down?

It's not really the fear of crashing that scares me more the fact that i'm not in control of the plane myself and once we are up in the air it's not like i can just get off. So it's more a case of control and claustrophobia. I get very claustrophobic in rooms that aren't well ventilated or very busy places.

*sigh* it's really annoying and i wish i could just get over it already.

You can't get out of a moving car either, and flight in a plain seems awfully dull and similar to riding in a car, actually. In fact, it's even less eventful. If you think logically about it, there are far scarier things that you do daily.

It's just a bus that flies. Does it stop you from using buses too? Because you're not in control there either and the driver isn't going to stop if it's going to affect his schedule. The only difference is that planes are orders of magnitude safer than buses.

but buses aren't thousands and thousands of miles up in the sky.

Try Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, imagine yourself taking a flight in a relaxed environment...

...but hey if you die it was your time to go ;)

Take a minibus taxi to work for a few weeks.
Once you're used to that, flying will seem very safe and fun.

Rational, logical thought.... I suppose you are scared that there might be accidents etc. But the stats show that you have a higher chance of being in a car accident..

The media doesn't cover every single car accidents like airoplane accidents. Really, there is absolutly nothing to be afraid of...

I also used to be scared, rode on it once, now I'm over it :D

Yes every day, I have PTSD, that's why I recommend Cognitive Therapy or Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy.

You can do it yourself and then join a group if you need to.

My fiance is a great pilot, maybe we should organise a flip in a Cesna 182?

Not really related but in any case.
First time flying I heard someone in the back rows tell a woman to open the window because we are of the ground.
I wanted to laugh my ass off.
