Fedora 9 makes Linux easy

... and whether you'd prefer to download/acquire 3.3GB, or 700MB and install what you want later.

Agreed.

But then again: If you have a lot of machines to install, it is better to have one big download than each of the machines downloading again.

I can however see that for the normal (home) user it will be better to have a smaller download. If however ordering media from somewhere, it would be nicer to order the full version.

Personally think Ubuntu is a much easier distribution, but hey thats just my opinion :)

Yep, a month or 2 ago.
Great service ;) and printed media in cases - those you get movie dvd's in.

Ok, great:). So in future instead of waiting 4-6 weeks:o for the overseas Ubuntu discs to arrive I'll just get it from here:).

Played any cool games on Linux recently? Like Gears of War, Crysis, Assassins Creed, Unreal Tournament 3 etc? :p

With Google's billions behind Wine, it is only a matter of time;).

Well done. You define yourself by the car you drive and the games you play

If you want to play games get a console. PC games are dying so why does Linux have to worry?
...
And I am sure his windows background is a picure of his car :D

Dude, don't be so uptight. It's Friday.

And who do you think you are to make personal attacks against me? Did you do design Linux? Why do you take it so personal when someone makes a comment on Linux that has nothing to do with you????

Well, if you want to get personal, I have a picture of your mom on my background.

Can play many a cool game on Linux atm. The fun in learning about the OS has been it's highlight for me thus far though. I took the plunge and downloaded Ubuntu, learned it all by myself thanks to the Internet :)

I've been using Fedora since RedHat. :) - Although I never used FC1.. I went from RedHat 9 to FC2.. and I also skipped FC3 and hopped to FC4..

As mentioned earlier one nice thing is that coming on a DVD (or multiple CD's) it has a lot of stuff with it, and when you're bandwidth constrained then "yum" isn't really very yummy.. :p

Anyone purchased cds/dvds from here: http://www.fosscds.co.za/ ?

They've got the latest Fedora and Ubuntu DVDs at only R38.41 for people who don't want to download (like me:o).
I've been purchasing CD's from fosscds since Fedora (then "Core") 5, no complaints - they're very efficient and extremely well priced..

errr and why bother with linux..when XP is so cheap and so user friendly ..duh??
What qualifies as "cheap" in your budget may be someone else's entire monthly takings..

Personally though for me, money has nothing to do with why I use Linux.. :p

I'd rather download an entire Linux distro at R2.00 per MB than use Windows.. :p :p

Well the buzz is surely turning toward Linux. My main desktop here at home is an Ubuntu box. So far I have no reason to toss it out as it actually makes my crappy and now aging hardware dance a little again.

And admit it... your desktop is fun to fiddle with again! :D

Seeing that Ubuntu comes on a CD (700mb) and Fedora comes on a DVD (3.3GB) there is a lot more in Fedora. One thing I like is the ability to choose between KDE and Gnome when the user log in.

Ubuntu is based on Debian. Requires the use of repositories for "additional" packages. I like Ubuntu ALOT.

Fedora is NOT based on Debian, and thus does not require a repositor for additional packages.

I would like to try Fedora - but only end of the month ;)

Aww this fedora 9 is briliant! Its just awesome! I can't stop spending time infront of my pc! Dam I love fedora 9! :D
