Has anyone seen a situation where you are connected (or seems to be connected) to a non-Vodacom network but with your Vodacom SIM in the data card?

Have a look at the attached graphic for an example.

If you've seen this:

- Which area are you in?
- What version of the dash?
- How did you recover from it?
- Anything else relevant?

I've had this one report, have never seen it myself, so am interested if others have seen it.

While on the topic, does anyone ever use VMC / Lite to connect and work on non-Vodacom networks? Any feedback?

About once a week at my office opposite Wanderers Stadium in Corlett Drive,Illovo, Jhb the signal is so bad or non-existent (or maybe the bandwidth is all used up or something) , I put in my MTN sim and things work fine. Just not as fast as Vodacom when it IS working.
I tried to geta data sim in the UK to use, but the shops are all clueless.Seems that they first get a PhD in stupid in SA then go and work in UK

Tx, Version of dash?

A friend of mine yes, in Paradyskloof Stellenbosch. He is currently away on a business trip so can't get dash version details from him. He roamed on MTN 3G with his Vodacom sim. He told me the only way to get onto MTN 3G was to plug the modem in, he couldn't manually connect to MTN. In Paradyskloof the Vodacom 3G signal is very poor, but the MTN 3G signal is very strong.

This was about a month ago, lately he says he couldn't get it right. The dash would still however briefly report MTN 3G roaming, maybe for a second or two with full bar signal and then switch over to Vodacom 2G.

 UK & DataSIM relevance?

I wanted to use my datacard in Uk, someone told me that I simply need o buy a pay-as-you-go sim with data capabilities, put it in my little portruding red vodafone datacard and I wd be on the web. All the UK shops I visited were not able to assist me. I felt their level of ignorance surpassed those of the SA mobile phone shops I had ever consulted

Ahh just experienced this now, although not on VMC light.

Dell D620
Dell Mobile Broadband Card Utility Version 2.06.01.27 (Vodafone badged)
Area : Roodepoort, Lea Glen
Card set for UMTS only

Set to GPRS -> Vodacom selected.
Set back to UMTS only -> No Service (searching 4 network) -> MTN Roaming

Vodacom SIM Card?

Yes, Vodacom - DataSIM

Sorry man. Ony read all the posts now. I thougt v3g meant MTN SIM in E220 using VMCLite.

But i have noticed this too. When working with my customers. After they put in their PIN the dashboard jumps though MTN 3G, MTN 3G Roaming, I think i saw Cell C once, then Vodacom 2G, then finally Vodacom 3G.

I even had one where it just stayed on MTN 3G. I then manually selected Vodacom-SA 3G.

Cant remember what dashboard version though.
