South Africans can expect a reduced amount of rolling blackouts over the weekend.

Eskom says large industrial customers who have cut down on electricity usage have helped to avoid a major crisis.

Anglogold Ashanti, Gold Fields, Harmony, Anglo Platinum and Impala Platinum suspended production at most of their mines yesterday after Eskom informed them it couldn't guarantee electricity supply to their operations.

The power utility reached its peak on Thursday and had to carry out more rolling blackouts than it’s ever had to in order to prevent the entire system from crashing.

Eskom's Andrew Etzinger says the system quickly stabilised when industries reduced their power consumption.

This looks good from the customers point of view...But what about the above companies? I think now is the time were going to have the greatest "fall" of them all :(

. . . . and the source of this information?

Not good at all, this is going to have massive economic impact whether or not you work at the mines or anything related to them.

This does NOT look good from a customers point of view - customers are also employees somewhere, and many customers face retrenchment soon.

Actually youre correct in that sense...what i meant is that the ppl at home might now have power, while the ppl that actually NEEDS it, has none...but only for a while though...

Almost as if they are tying to make this sound like a small sacrifice by companies - and that it will be all sunshine and roses now....

Lol - well done Sherlock. Duh.

The worst part is that they made it sound like a positive.

No, the worst part is the "voting masses" will believe it is positive...

Luckily, the loss of livelihood for 5 million people from the mines alone will be hard to explain away with a free political rally and a flag.

...exactly. the way they say it, is as if they think this country is made out of ppl who would believe everything...Although i have to admit...just throw a couple of "dollose" around, and theyll believe it

Well people keep voting for the ANC, that says something.

To be honest, the first and second time was not that much of a stretch to imagine.

Now, it is just ridiculous - if they are still popular this time next month, when 5 million+ people are starving and destitute, then, quite frankly, they (the voting masses) deserve what they get.

First time was inevitable. Second time, maybe. But again, no, then you seriously need to get yourself checked.

I realy cant believe ppl are so stupid...A Donkey bumps his head only once, and i think it must be in a matter of "seconds" he realizes his mistake...but 14 YEARS???....COME ONNNNN...lololol

It is a lot like your spouse cheating on you. You get married (first vote), they cheat on you, you forgive (second vote), they cheat on you, you forgive (3rd vote), they cheat on you, you forgive (4th vote), they cheat on you, you forgive (5th vote)......

At what point did that analogy become ridiculous? Some people would say the first time was too far, others the second. Our "huddled masses" will most likely continue on indefinitely.

The problem is so many people are uninformed. Realistically how many voters understand the concepts of load shedding, base load generation, reserve capacity etc. They probably just believe what the government tells them.

Continuing with your analogy, its probably the same as believing your spouse when they say they just went out to see a friend...

Not much is being sid about the knock-on effect of Sasol cutting production. I suspect that this could be even greater than the mining financial losses.

This whole thing looks like an act of panic and desperation on behalf of a failed government

Next step is "state of emergency" censorship and this site going down.
No worries RPM - I will bring you some ciggies in jail!
