At this stage it is not open access, it may become open at a later stage.
All it takes is the cheapest android phone on the market, a sim card that's been pre rica'd prior to purchase and the scum is up and running. Android phone => Google account. Google account + sim card => Facebook account.
Then they take the fake FB profile and add some fake friends. Add a couple of bucks to the sim card each month so it doesn't die and they let the profiles "mature" for anything from six months to a year. By then the FB profile's got a couple of hundred friends and looks proper ligit. Meanwhile they're saying nice things on hellopeter about the local restaurant down at the harbour and the coffee shops in Hermanus. Building credibility. Some of these guys say so much on Google that they become local guides.
Meanwhile you are drilling the roads, digging the pavements, spending a fortune running fibre in your dorp, paying through your nose for your layer2 back to Cape Town as even a dual feel 17GHz won't handle the traffic over False Bay or Walker Bay and people are signing up left, right and centre, hitting that layer2 with their streaming until it's smoking and you have to buy more and more. Then you discover that a single service from, let's say, Openserve is not enough as the people want to burn you offices down when the layer 2 goes down. Now DFA, BBI, Liquid, etc have to join the party so you can have redundancy. More money each month, but at least the whining from customers has stopped.
And you are rightly very proud of the network you're building.
The next thing you'll start seeing unjustified, horrible reviews of your company on hellopeter, Google and Facebook. You may even see people saying bad things about you here. The one thing they'll have in common is a comment along the lines of "I can't wait for us to get some proper choice". Don't be surprised if you are made out to be the dictator of an evil empire, holding the town ransom.
The idea is to tarnish your business' reputation so you won't get new signups.
Whatever else you do, don't even think about increasing your subs. Even if the R/$ drops by 50% and your IPT increases accordingly. That will lead to yet another uprising.
Then the hero open access FNO will ride into town on his white, orange, green or pink horse - offering the town "real choice".
Once the other FNO(s) hit town, the fun and games starts. You'll suddenly find manholes opened, petrol poured down them and then set alight. You'll find fibre just ripped out. You'll find street boxes run over. All in an attempt to take your customers. En die nonsens stop nie... In fact it'll get to the point where you'll seriously consider selling the business just to get away from the drama. That's usually after your first heart attack.
Frankly, you'd do better spending the money you want to plough into the ground on towers and providing a better service over wireless than the FNOs can offer.
You may want to ask Mr W who was at school with you about this. He can tell you all about these dirty tricks in his town.
