First of my apologies if there are threads covering this.

I am doing some research for family staying in Paarl (Buitenverwagting suburb) and trying to find out what options they have regarding proper internet. Fiber obviously being the preferred method.

I've seen Openserve does not come close so I was just wondering of someone more knowledgeable about the options in that area might make this search easier for me.

Thank you in the meantime.

I am subscribing to this Thread. Moving to Paarl soon so would like to know what Fiber options there is.

We currently have our Open Access network going in at Boschenmeer and Bertville.

Vrykyk have lit fibre now and northern suburbs will follow suit as trenching has been ongoing for a while now. Updated on Openserve coverage page as well.

Still patiently waiting in Roodeberg, its just wrong to have a 200mbps line 100m away from you but you can't have some.

Any feedback yet??? I'm dying over here ... work from Paarl 3 days a week and have to use Sonic fixed wireless - which is an absolute joke!

As an update to this thread. Lightstruck (https://www.lightstruck.co.za/ ) have begun installing fresh fibre lines in Paarl, they're currently in the Buitenverwagting area. Letter we received upon them showing up stated that it'll take about 5 Days to install in our area.
I'm assuming they're planning to roll-out the rest of Paarl shortly as they're all shaded in on their map.

They should be done by tomorrow @ our residence, will let you all know how long it takes to set-up the remainder, we've already ordered fibre from them as well.

Thanks for this. Just pre-ordered.

Dear Paarl Resident

Thank you for registering your interest for Lightstruck fibre. We are almost at the end of construction in Paarl Area 5 (see our coverage map on our website www.lightstruck.co.za for more details) and the area will be going live on 17 July!

However, due to incomplete work in your area by the previous contractor, and Drakenstein Municipality trying to resolve this matter, Lightstruck is unable to proceed with installations in the affected area until this matter is resolved. As a result, we have had to make the decision to put the affected area on hold.
Lol I'm sure I'll get 5g way before I get fibre at this rate.

Plus 1 ... cannot wait to get this sorted.

@Magnarmalok are you hooked up already?

Fibre ordered on the 19th, was told Mweb would contact us within 7 days to facilitate the installation (today being the 7th day), this hasn't happened yet.
Furthermore was told complete installation would take up to 6 weeks, so 5 more remaining now.

All told, this is taking a lot longer than it should, especially when compared to other experiences I've had with Fibre installations.

However, it is currently still better than nothing at all.

Spoke to someone at the Municipality that said there's no problem and everything is a for away. Business as usual. Yesterday got a Lightstruck email stating I can sign up. Went with Cool Ideas 20/20. Will see how long it takes.
