Hello

Does anyone know how long it takes for FTTH Planned area to take effect? It has been on planned status for 6 months plus on there coverage map.

Firstly, which Operator? Secondly, where in Centurion, Centurion is pretty big?

I suspect that you might have it before April, because if it was on the website as planned then it "needs" to be completed in this Financial Year, which ends on the 31st of March. As far as I know Telkom works on April as its financial year end.

I stay in Centurion and I'll tell you what the Telkom engineer who was here about 2 weeks ago told me when I asked when the new planned areas come online. He told me anywhere up to 2 years or maybe longer before the planned areas can be connected, he told me not to bet on getting it any time soon.

But thats just what the one techie said, he might be wrong. but I couldn't actually get an answer from Telkom's call center.

Yeah you will not get any feedback form Telkom call center. Hmm I cant think that if the area is planned on their site that it would not take 1 to 2 years to complete. I have see them placing the new lines in Lyttleton. So I am hoping for end of March.

Yeah, time will tell, but the fact that they are installing cables doesn't count for much, here in techo pack they installed the fibre cables almost 3 or 4 years ago and fibre is still not available in the residential complexes here and the fibre runs along the outside edge of my complex.

That sucks. Well I can only hope. Telkom is so useless in doing anything. So actually having hope in them is a problem. I am just looking for something with a fast upload speed. As ADSL does not provide this.

So a there were some telkom guys laying pipe outside my complex. I asked them what are they up to they said they are installing the fibre in the area and will be done in 2 weeks! That sounds amazing. But I do not want to get my hopes up haha!

Which suburb and street/block do you live on in Centurion? Don't wanna get my hopes up either, just curious.

In Lyttleton close to the Spar. So the area just above Jean ave.

I saw the Huawei working on one of the man holes corner of Glover Av and Tipuana Street last week Friday. They were in my estate Liquid Amber about 3 months ago, so something is happening just don't know when we will get it.

Deciding on whether to buy a townhouse in Gloverdale Complex, Glover Avenue, Centurion... Webafrica says 266 Glover Avenue has Fibre coverage but the lower half of the complex looks to be the light pink "planning phase" colour... ****, guess I'll have to place an order and see what happens.

And to think when my wife asked one of the technician's he said it would be online soon. I don't anticipate that we'll be getting fibre in a hurry.

Mine isn't even on the planning phase part according to Telkom, yet according to my ISP there is fibre running right along our complex and I could apply today if I could convince enough people.

So our offer we made on the house was accepted today and we'll be moving in on the 1st of November.

I gave Webafrica a call as their coverage map shows more than half our complex is already covered under fibre, however my house is 3 houses down from the "active" zone and still in planning zone.

Very frustrating as its literally like 100m.

The lady said if it's already in the complex then they are probably just busy finalizing everything and it should be up and running within a few weeks / months.

Hi

So I live in Lyttelton Manor Ext 1, the area by the Lyttelton Kwikspar, and I ordered my fiber on 30 August 2016. The Telkom techie came to install the fiber on 5 September 2016, and finally today it was activated. It was surprisingly very quick, very unlike Telkom actually :crylaugh:.

But now it is installed and I am loving every bit of the 100Mbps.
