Hi Everyone,

I Recently had my telkom fibre line installed and chose the 10mbps speed.

Since the line was installed +/-3 weeks ago I have had problems with the connection dropping while playing PS4 online as well as connection while watching Netflix. All my devices are connected via wifi

When watching anything on netflix (via my Hisense Smart TV), everything plays fine and then the episode/movie starts to reload and gets stuck on 25%, thereafter I have to restart the episode. This then happens every +/-30mins.

When playing online using my PS4, everything seems fine for the first +/-45mins but then the game that I'm busy with disconnects and gives me an error that I have lost my internet connection and then this happens every +/-30mins (sometimes more frequent). However the connection to the chat party that I have through the PS4 does not get interrupted.

I have tried to connect with a network cable straight to the PS4, thinking that the wifi router might be faulty, but the same thing happend. I also contacted telkom and they refreshed my ports on there side, but that did not solve the problem

Has anyone had a similar problem or know of a solution for this?
Please, any and all help regarding this will be much appreciated.
Thanks

Can you confirm if your IP address changes when this occurs?

Hi AdrianH,

I will have a look tonight and get back to you.

Same problem happend and I checked the IP address, but it didn't change.

What does your fibre box says? There is 3 lights flashing, are anyone of them turning red or not working? This is not the DSL modem, but the fibre box before the cable ends up in the DSL modem.

The fibre box that I have does not have any lights on it. Only lights are on the modem and the wifi router.

What wifi router is it? If your IP is not changing, I would hazard a guess that it is the wifi router dropping signal, and not the fibre itself going down.

I have Netgear wifi router, that telkom supplied with the installation. So is the wifi router faulty? Should I ask telkom to replace it with a new one or get a completely different router?

And here I thought this sht would stop once the copper got kicked to the curb...

in the 18 months I've had fibre, it went down once for two hours, a fault the City had to fix on the fibre itself.

Simple to test, connect one of the devices that you are having this issue with directly to the router via a lan cable and see if the problem persists...

run a constant ping to google or somewhere, one from a device connected via wifi and one from a device connected via cable. Will see which one drops (packet loss) and then you can rule out wifi fault on router.

I have connected my PS4 via lan cable and the same problem happend.

Hi There,

I got a 20mb line, Telkom ISP.

Had a huawei router which sucked and they gave me a Netgear.

I have exactly the same problem as you gaming wise. After 20-40 minutes it drops connection.

Happens on BF4 and Neverwinter on PS4 and WoW on PC.

When it happens on PS4, oddly enough it doesn't affect the chat, but game disconnects.

Have you perhaps figured anything out? It's driving me insane!

I am experiencing exactly the same issues. Also have the Netgear VEVG 2660 router. Any solutions?

Check your router settings check QOS etc. It might be a setting issue if that doesn't fix then it might be the router itself

QOS sorted it out, now my ping is fixed in game. I noticed as the ping drops to below 5ms the game disconnects and I am not able to connect at all again. Thanks for the reply though. My ping is now permanently on 20-25 which is not bad, at least it fixes the issue.
