Fibre in Strand

I see they started in beach road last week.

They making good progress.

So who managed to get out to to the beach on Saturday to meet Octotel? I managed to miss them but would love to know whether they released any exciting news, or whether it was just a standard meet n greet.

Hopefully we'll be out of the darkness soon. It's just a pity that free standing houses seem to be the last on the list for access (sad panda).

I was keen on going but had a vehicle accident the Wednesday before it, and needed to be hospitalized. They were also in the Sanctuary on the weekend.

So I had a flyer in my postbox this weekend from VOX. I noticed that they reference the advertisement is in partnership with Frogfoot. It seems Frogfoot has more info displayed on their website than Octotel does (not happy with the frequency and type of feedback that Octotel provides). Anyway, this is on Frogfoot's site regarding Strand:

And this displays when checking availability:

I thought this was going to take a minimum of 2 years before they get to Broadway. :wtf: :) :wtf:

Great to see real progress being made! Unfortunately, the chances of me seeing fibre is rather slim. OpenServe stated they will not be upgrading my exchange (4mb ADSL), SADV on the DFA network will not be rolling out to anywhere close by for several years, although live fibre runs down Gordon's Bay drive past my place, and Octotel's fibre stops about 2.5km from my place just outside Gordon's Bay.

I hope congestion on LTE is relieved once fibre goes more mainstream in the area...

I have a couple of friends in beach road who are supposed to go live now in Feb. Lets hope all goes well, so they can start with phase two :)

Has anybody arranged installation from Octotel in Beach Road?
They said they would start installations during the last week in February and we should expect a call just before that.

And the rest of Strand has gone yellow (work in progress) for Frogfoot. Remember to get your pre-orders in:

We already have two additional micro pops in Strand. Building a third as I write this. If you're not into gaming, this is something you may want to look at:

Thanks for the info!
I don't generally game online, but I do stream and download from PSN, etc. Where can I get more information regarding coverage, AUP, etc. ?

You know us...

What you see is what you get. We don't screw clients on FUP / AUP. Instead we have fat pipes and peering agreements. More than 1TB a month on a 20Mb heatzone of FTTH is not uncommon.

If you email your address to [email protected] they can run an on line line of site test.

I have registered and pre-ordered on as many places as i can. i see I am within the planned area and actually quite close to the cable that runs along Wilberforce. I like the frogfoot website, I must say a big well done to them. Cell C uncapped 50MB at R899 seems the winner to me especially since there is no setup costs and a free wifi router as well. May even go the extra R100 and get 100MB.

We've had a layer 2 fibre link from Teraco Rondebosch terminating into Metropole Plaza for many years, for our fibre fed high site on the roof.

A pre existing contract prevented us from selling FTTH services into the building.

That contract has come to an end.

Starting today, if you live in Metropole Plaza, or have a business in that building, we can provide you with fibre on our own network:

Hi Guys

So Frogfoot rocked up at my house on Wednesday afternoon after work. Apparently they have signed an agreement with Telkom to use their existing overhead poles to provide Fibre to residents. According to the representative all premises in Strand that has overhead Telkom cabling/poles (to the west of main road) is within the scope of the installation. They provided this form to be filled in. Therefore if you have existing overhead Telkom copper lines, give them a call and find out if your area is part of the rollout. I have mailed this form to everyone I have on my mailing list for fibre rollout.
