Fibre in Strand

@Stratt @ld13 @belator ... Right so now that it's official that we're moving, which ISPs do you guys currently have and what's your experience with them? I'm currently considering Home-Connect over Frogfoot for a 200 package, but would like some other opinions. Heard good things about Cape Connect as well but don't know them very well.

I also considered Vox and CISP but recent events have pushed them back in my preferences.

I have some friends who use Vox, and they seem to have endless problems lately. I am currently with Rocketnet, the service isnt bad, just some outages here and there, that when asked little to no feedback is provided. Planning on moving to Mind the Speed next month. Two of my friends are with them and service/price value is great. They also provide a free static IP.

How's their support, downtime? Any other issues?

Phone support 8:30am to 10:00pm Monday to Friday. 9:00am to 1:00pm Saturday and Sunday. There's always someone in their NOC in Somerset West, so email support tickets are answered 24x7x365.

I don't know what downtime is. I'm sitting around 99.8% on my pingdom.com probe on my static ip address over a 12 month period.

The advantage with Cape Connect, is that they are a short 4KM/10 minute drive away from Lochnerhof. They have been in business in the Helderberg for 9+ years and ain't going anywhere soon. They also now offer free installation. Although they ain't cheapest ISP on frogfoot for the 200/200 service - there Home-Connect is without a doubt the cheapest.

Pretty decent packages from what I can see. Noticed they only launched recently.

Very nice dude! Their packages are a bit more than others plus I'd need to buy a new router, so financially a bit tricky for me to maneuver at the moment, after buying our first house. :X3:

But are they any good..? I've noticed a lot of recent complaints on the HC forum on myBB regarding international speeds. Honestly so many things to consider before making a decision haha!

i have been with cape connect for over 8 years now and only downtime i have had was due to my own hardware but since moving over to fibre no issues ever.
Occasionally there is planned schedule downtime like once a year but you get email notification a week prior

i will never move to another ISP

Congratulations on the purchase of your house!

There's always the option of a free router if you're going to stay with us for two years.

Nicely set out spreadsheet:thumbsup:

It is far from 'nice', but thanks. The idea is to get as much info, price wise, in there, while having something to point to when I am helping friends decide. None of the fiber comparing sites are accurate and @Frogfoot Fibre packages page portal just randomly shuffles the packages and does not allow me to filter/sort as I want to. I, and my handful of friends/clients, have varying needs and this sheet allows me to e.g quickly show peeps that are Vodacom crazy or planning to go with HX Systems, that there are better options available.

I have seen it again this week - people see a "good" price on Vodacom and sign up for a capped 10/10 package or whatever, only to find out a month later that they can suddenly perform backups and stream content - stuff that their 2/0.5mbps adsl never allowed. That 120GB user suddenly jumps to 1TB without even trying and then starts to eye the 20/20 speeds rather. I need to work out the upgrade path in the end while avoiding jumping ISPs.

Personally I need 10/10 now and will probably land up on a 20/20 by December and 50/50 package in due course. Simply taking the cheapest 10/10 at R549 pm + R0 Install costs now means that I will land up paying R749 to R949 on Cape Connect @portcullis.

Option B, as per the sheet, is to go with @AcceleritZa, meaning I will start off with R573 pm + R49 install costs, and land up only paying R653 to R853.

Option C, is Home Connect, where I will start off at a slightly higher R608 + R0, and move to a respectable R718 to R808. Not bad. With the option to go full 100/100 at R888!

Option D, is Seacom on where I can start of paying only R649 + R0, and move to R799 to R899. Also not bad.

Have been stuck with the above conundrum since Frogfoot went live in Gordon's Bay a few months ago already.

@ld13 Our R499 was just slashed today to R49 only across many products. Do take a look and see if that makes any difference in your calcs :)

Anyone from Strand on Home-Connect? How is your experience with them and do you experience any issues during peak hours (6pm-10pm). Also what is Twitch streaming like with them?

Okay guys. I know pretty much close to nothing about Fibre and service providers etc. I need to look at Fibre to be able to work from home. Uncapped a defitive requirement and good speed during the day also important. What/Who can you suggest please?

I've been getting amazing service from Cape Connect!

I'm with Mind the Speed, no complaints so far and speeds are great. I am also getting great low latency, 160ms to Frankfurt for example.
