Fibre may replace Naked ADSL

Come on!!!! the footprint is laughably small. Its not a replacement tech when it only services a handful of areas and a customer count that numbers in, at best, the hundreds.

I have very little hope that it will happen for all in any time that could be considered reasonable.

You will be surprised....

I'll switch to Fiber when FNB starts offering fiber bandwidth.

I moved over to Fiber on Vumatel and saved R600 for a better service, Plus the kicker for me is that I don't have to pay that Telkom Tax anymore.

I suspect I will be long dead before FTTH is rolled out in my area. I asked about the 028 514 **** exchange lines some time ago, and the answer from Telkom was a short "no plans yet"
I'd be happy if our local exchange could be upgraded from the current max of 4Mbps ADSL to 8, or 10 Mbps
We are only a short time past the "nommer asseblief" type exchanges.

I will sign up the moment they start digging up my sidewalk, but alas, the fckers seem intent on upgrading everyone around me.

Same here!! Just spoke to my connection and it sounds like the contractors will be moving across the road to our suburb in two weeks' time.

Ill eat my hat (with video for proof) if I can get access to FTTH in Benoni by the end of the ANC's NEXT term. Deal?

Fibre is for South African suburbs only. The east rand doesn't qualify... :p

Telkom offered ADSL in this small rural town with 35,000 people, 300 k's from Joburg, only in Aug 2012, with 4 Mbps max. So we better try to get fibre from another company sometime in the future.
Further back, Telkom finally replaced their manual telephone exchange with an automatic one only in early 1994. Up till then we had still ladies there plugging fat jack plugs and listening to your conversation in the local post office. Progress is slow in SA.

Benoni? Move to civilisation!!

PS. how much are you willing to pay?

Yeah, hopefully the Netherlands by the end of the year.

Well I wouldnt want to pay more than I am paying now for 4Mb ADSL.

Oh yeah fellow Benonian.
If you think you'll never get it try living in a neglected suburb called Actonville.
Interestingly enough DFA has quite a bit of fibre around Benoni.
Closest to me is actually 2 streets away but i come from a piss poor area so I doubt anybody will ever be bothered to use it.
