Fibre: Secunda Community

My fibre was installed today, Yipee. Sad news is I cant test it yet properly, working nightshift, so will give it a decent batter on Tuesday. Speed test shows all good for now though.

Thanks, but it was down before I left for work, they did mention that I have to phone customer care to inform them about the installation, so I guess it was just activated for testing by the people who installed it. Will give them a ring soon to find out what is what.

How is the fiber experience so far. I see that they've started, at long last, in our area with installing fiber lines. I guess it's still a month away before I get connected then?

Mine was intalled monday, but the router (nokia) can't connect to the vidacom isp. Called vodacom today, so will see if the can sort it out. :(

Does anyone have a direct contact number for possible Fibre in a complex in Secunda? My complex has existing Telkom copper lines to each unit. Can the same trenches be used to get Fibre installed in each individual unit?

I have an existing service order but yet to hear anything from Vodacom with regards to feasibility. It looks like the "boxes" are installed already in the street.

Only if it's Telkom. Other providers will have to install their own conduits.

Thank you @Swa for the information. I have found out that the Body Corporate of the complex I'm in needs to sign some sort of form that they allow Vodacom to install the infrastructure inside the complex, such as the trenching. I requested this form from the local Vodacom 4U shop in the Secunda mall as well as through the call center. They just been promising me that they will send it to all relevant parties for approval. Up to now, little to no success in my Fibre application.

The interim LTE solution is also a mess. Applied for it via the shop. Received the router without the dongle or simcard. My online progress order states that both the simcard and router were delivered. Took this up with the shop (who requested the addition of LTE) and call centre (who is of the believe that I do not qualify for the interim solution owing that fibre is live in my area). Still awaiting their reply... Poor initial service received from my side with all of this.

Hey there. To my joy and surprise, they started digging in Evander in my street too. Anyone knows if this too will be Vodacom too?

Good morning

WHO is the project manager for the Telkom Fibre installations that is wrecking our town's infrastructure at this stage? This is RIDICULOUS and costing the service provider/contractor unnecessary expenditures due to negligence. If there is better planning before they excavate/execute then that is a step in the right direction. BUT WHO IS THAT CONTACT PERSON? They will NOT be allowed to work in our street, AT ALL. @TelkomZA

You are not dealing here with Telkom but Openserve. And I doubt anyone from Openserve is active on this forum.

Yeah, I also don't see how they can be stopped. ^^If they want to wreck things and spend extra money let them. At least you have Openserve fibre.

Jip they are currently destroying the whole town. Water pipes, electrical cables, vodacom's fibre lines, peoples drive ways. It's all getting destroyed. Vodacom Fibre has been off in a lot of areas in town for more than a week. Looks like no one wants to take the blame.
