Ai dude....

The isp's have no problem in over congesting the network, so they implement fup's. They only use it if they cant provide what they promise because they want more customers and their network infrastructure cant handle the extra amount of users. No where did I state that it is applied at certain times, but yea....

But you are too smart for me, so I do apoligise that I mentioned this fup's.

Wow this thread seems to have gone pretty much off topic. :whistle:

Sadly it seems that at the moment the investors have killed off Secunda fibre with their unrealistic expectations and lack of market understanding. (Investor: "I want 20% return with 0 risk. Also don't spend any money on advertising")

Let's hear what the official feedback is when Kalin gets back. @123net, do you have an official statement with regards to contracts etc.? Is it 500 otherwise no dice?

@Alex$The$Alien and others, have any of you interacted with any of the other fibre players? Maybe we should start lobbying the community (again) to get statistics of interest and approach the other fibre guys. I believe the 123net site is already pretty good proof of interest from our community.
 
I wonder what the other providers other than Vuma, Greencom etc. are willing to put on the table. As long as there are cheap uncapped options I would be happy but I bet they would want a large number of signups.

I am waiting it out with 123Net. A new enterprise is a daunting undertaking. The amount of hoops to jump through is more than enough to make anyone think twice. They have a winner here. For the rest, they are all the same. Same battle - same tech. The other fiber teams, they joined the same battle. 123Net has my vote
They want to break status quo. We should support them for this.

This is my take on it too. Mybb broke the news before they launched which is why nobody is using them. So it's no use beating that dead horse. We could have leveled the same criticisms at Vumatel in 2013 but people were willing to wait it out with them.

But then 123Net took the publicity and made promises so they do have a responsibility here. They just need to get all their ducks in a row. Just look at all the interest they received in this short amount of time without any advertising. It would not be smart not to capitalise on this.

They paid money for licenses. I don't know what they paid for infrastructure. They should just advertise it now and go with the signups they can get.

Yeah, 123net sucks at advertising. We can make it happen though, no? I'm thinking a poster in a shop window at each residential shopping area. Palm Centre, Ext22, OK grocer area, sollys area, etc... and Trichardt they count for the 500 needed contracts if I'm not mistaken.

Hell posters can't be that expensive :erm:
If nobody wants to fork out some cash alone, how bout doing a kickstarter gig for some marketing.

Vuma's requirements to implemented was that a third of the households showed interest. No contract or Sign Ups were necessary. They prefer working with community associations, as that would mean that have access to a massive database of people that they can speak to.

Personally, I think it is a good strategy, get the interest, and if you work with the community association, you can state that you are. This creates additional trust.
 
Pamphlet distribution costs R15k in our local paper. A full page ad is R21k and a half page R11k. I don't know why 123Net doesn't want to do this. It would cost them a pittance compared to network costs and get a lot more customers on board.

Has anyone actually used 123net yet?Cant believe the amount of commentary on the forum for an SP that has a non-existent service.I predict some extremely p..... off people in the coming months.
 
I think I know what's happening. "I'm informed that the Secunda target, after 600 interested signups were received and the area assessed, has now been set at 500 contracts."
From their facebook it's because they got 600 signups they've now set a target of 500 contracts. They're waiting to see how many they can possibly get on board.

Why do people keep saying this?? FFS there are a number of places that already use 123Net. Umhlanga, im guessing thats where they are based.

Woodlands, Sunningdale... stop commenting if you cant even bother to go to their website and no those people are not on this forum. Plus I would rather struggle with fibre for 2 years than the 5 years I have been struggling with 3G...

Yup a number of people already have it. If I'm not mistaken someone posted a speedtest. I don't see a lot of people on here swooning over Vumatel either. It's mostly people clammering to get it.

Ask them to post some speed tests, please... and possibly a traceroute to www.bbc.co.uk as well, if possible.

Would like to do some comparisons.
