Fibre: Secunda Community

Why do people keep saying this?? FFS there are a number of places that already use 123Net. Umhlanga, im guessing thats where they are based.
Have you read of any user experiences, especially on MyBB?I haven't and I find that very strange.I know you guys are desperate for fibre but don't let it cloud your judgement.

Why should there be any user experience for a company with a couple hundred customers in Durban?

Well I have taken a back seat for a while to see how things rolled out , but as I see it we have 2 options guys.

1. We stick with 123net and start doing their job and market the **** out of them.

a.) We put up a lot of posters everywhere , the mall being our biggest target and some other well know places.
b.) We put up our email address not 123nets on posters but ours to receive interest and we can then respond with the contract.
c.) When we have reached 500 contracts we sent it all to 123net.
d.) We wait for 123net to plan the additional users and get our fibre by 2020.
e.) Reason we do this is for us to transparent as a community and to not rely on 123net to give us the "true" numbers.
f.) Just saying for all we know we might already be at 500 contracts but those sneaky investors want more ;)

2. We appoint an Representative in Secunda to be our face for a Fibre initiative.

a.) We get everyone to full in their details and sent it to our representative.
b.) Our Representative sent the information to bunch of fibre suppliers .
c.) We get a few suppliers to tender for our community.
d.) We have meeting choose who we award the tender to.
e.) We get fibre on the deadline specified in the tender.

This is the only way I can see this happening. If you guys want to do go to plan 1 ill be their helping to put up the posters.

If you guys are keen for plan 2 I will help as well.

/ start debating.

@Quantic, you forgot option #3. Just wait for them to do their job. They would be crazy not to invest in a community that's enthusiastic and wants their business. I'm pretty sure they're just holding out as long as contracts are coming in to see how many they can get in one go.

The users that already has it.
What I thought but could be wrong as it's not a reasonable request.

The reason I have left out option 3 is the following.

Now to clarify as well I was the one who organised with the CEO and the CTO to have the meeting in secunda and I organised the Venue.

Please take that into account that I also want the fibre here as much as everyone else do , this also might explain to some why we have so much passion just to have a decent internet connection at a fair price.

Problems I have with the entire "project" so far.

1. When I spoke to Kalin the first time I asked him if a large amount of interest is show how long will it take until the first client is connected and he said 2-3 months. He confirmed this in the meeting. This didn't happen....

2. 0 marketing was done so far from 123net with very little transparency of what's happening so far behind closed doors in the last 6 months , if they want us to do all the marketing for them we want to know where we stand at all times , I can remember Kalin said that way leaves was already done in Mei, giving them benefit of the doubt I can not see them having issues with way leaves for more than 2 months after that. We are waiting 6 months for this service and they haven't even start to trench , boys being realistic this wont happen anytime soon as well. Someone just explain to me why we waiting for so long to get the contracts.????????????????????

3. Promises about a scale to adjust your speed was promised never delivered.

4. The original target was 300 sign ups to start the planning phase that continued to installation and connection as per their website. The sudden change in the amount razes a lot of suspicion and doubt in my eyes. I can still live with 300 contracts that's needed but the sudden 500 required is /face palm.

5. . Even just phoning all the signups should have boosted the contract numbers but this didn't even happen. I don't feel any eagerness from 123net.

6. Problems with the contract that has been pointed out even how little it is should have been settled already as it prohibits sign ups even if idiots don't understand some of it, it should have still been made clear by a 123net representative that carries some water not the one here that cant contribute for **** as he is obviously to scared ****less to say anything meaningful, he is basically here just to indulge us.

7. I just don't feel anything enthusiasm for this project anymore. They missed their Bus for this community 3 months ago, and to start the hype from scratch again as an individual for company that will personally reward me with nothing I can not and will not vouch for anymore. Taking out the fact that I will rewarded with fibre which I will be paying for.

8. Boils down to a micky mouse company trying to enter a market which they are not ready for , I hoped in the start that this will not be the case but sadly it seems like it is, they just do not have the resources or the level of commitment to get things done with a clients on personal level.

Yeah the 2-3 months was unrealistic when even their official representative on facebook said at least 6 months and that was only a few months ago. I knew nobody would see this before December or perhaps even next year if it happens.

I still don't understand the large gap between the signups and the contracts being sent out but it happened in succession of them rolling out in Durban and Weltevredenpark got theirs at the same time. Maybe there is a plausible reason for this and it seems they are now sending out contracts as soon as signups are met. From all my observations people have unrealistic expectations of a new company and I tried to tell everyone things will not go so smoothly.

Granted. I also agree.

Let us just wait it out. Besides. I created this thread to be a source for people seeking information regarding the incoming fibre.

and then it turned in to a hangman's nouse when some started putting pressure on 123Net. then things got negative.. then myself also turned a bit to the darkside #Swa.

may I suggest just sitting back and waiting to see what happens. we did our part. shown major interest. let them do the rest.

Growing pains are to be expected. and no Revolution started with cutting the head off the snake #Telkom

I just want better uncapped Internet with faster and more reliable speeds I'm getting. I don't play online games any more due to lagging. I'm willing to support which ever company is willing to assist. I'll be patient and stick with my current isp as after the ones I have tried they are all similar. I was just really hoping that by now 123net would have started trenching. There is not much we can do from our side, is there?

Negative. Their investors are calling the shots

No they don't , I don't give a **** about their investors , if 123net is not willing to do business we just get someone that's willing to , if that means me going from door to door to get sign ups then I am willing to do it , and I will do it again to get the contracts , but THEN ILL DEFINITLY not give them to 123net that's a guarantee.

123net should be privileged to be the one to put in our fibre not the other way around, taken into account the amount of interest show we should be able to get someone else involved as well, maybe this is just me getting extremely annoyed by people that is asking me questions about when the fibre is coming I don't know. But this is getting old really fast, I mean if this is the sort of "customer care" we are getting now how will this be if the service is live?

There is currently only 1 thing that makes sense to me and that's that 123net currently has way too much on their plate and they can not get to everything, I mean we have been patient but this is getting absurd to the point that I feel neglected as possible consumer now that's shocking.

@123NET START PHONING PEOPLE TO GE THE CONTRACTS , ITS NOT OUR JOB TO MAKE PEOPLE SEND THE CONTRACTS TO YOU, WE DID ENOUGH TO MARKET THIS @#$@!$ FOR YOU.

May I also suggest a weekly blog or newsletter sent to everyone that signed up.

I would not mind getting a mail from 123Net say every monday or friday stipulating need to know info.

Not everyone is tech savvy. And may not know what is required to set up fibre. So a newsletter along the lines of this

Is your system fibre ready?

Here is what you need to know when the service goes live.

Bang info

Bang required products.

Etc etc etc

Could work. Bit far from my place though

That would be vdsl (correct me if I am wrong) and yes our lovely Telkom exchange do support 20/40 vdsl but you must be married to the exchange to get 20 meg vdsl because of data loss /signal to noise ratio blah blah blah read up on it on google and 40 meg is unavailable due to the Secunda mini-dsl not supporting.

Now moving to the real topic shown in this image is the pink area which is FTTH and is show to be under construction in secunda which is surprising as I have never heard about open serve .

Anyone care to inform us about this O.o maybe 123net is working with open serve? I have no idea.

Edit : Never mind I read up on it and its a Telkom partner meaning its TELKOM FTTH so this brought a smile to my face , at least I know when this 123net thing falls through the floor which it will Telkom will at least bring us some fibre if we can afford it . Big shrug at least Telkom is honest and upfront with their poor service.
