midnightcaller is from the area, so he will be able to say if the CA drove the fibre deployment.

I am a resident of the area and paying member of the PRRA.

The PRRA initiated the Fibre project.
PRRA communicated directly to the residents. Some residents are paying members of the PRRA.
PRRA collected all the details of residents who were interested. These were aggregated and sent to 123net.

123net sent out two emails the residents who voiced an interest.
When I read the contract , I was not comfortable with the terms of the contract. Hence , I refused to sign up with 123net and I voiced my concerns to the PRRA and on the forum.

The PRRA attempted to get 123net to engage the community. But that didn't work out. It resulted in the last comms from the PRRA.

I support the PRRA decision which is "to withdraw their support for 123net"

I know I am biased.

But you are masquerading around here.
You don't even have an awareness of your bias in favour of 123net who have failed in their initiatives in both Secunda and paulshof (to my knowledge)
 
Any idea what their plans for Bellville is?

Are anyone actually connected?

There is no roll out whatsoever, I haven't even heard of them being granted a license here in Table View and they said they'd apply for it near 5 months ago.
Also Bellville still needs 288 signups according to the website.

I would give up hope and try and get e.g. Frogfoot to come in, then pick your provider from them (be it Vuma, WebAfrica, Mweb, etc.)

Vuma is not an ISP, but a fibre Provider. They install fibre, but you still need to choose an ISP
 
Swa was the one badmouthing 123net in the beginning, ironically he is defending them now, so I wont say he is biased towards 123net, he is just hopeful.
 
Ok guys, let's cut to the chase. 123net is dead in the water. Why haven't we got a Secunda residents association yet that can issue a RFQ to a few service providers and see who is (genuinely) interested in helping us. It sounds like we have about 300+ interested parties, DFA around the town, last mile fibre in the water pipes http://mybroadband.co.za/news/fibre/145969-ftth-last-mile-through-your-water-pipes-in-photos.html and an active user community.
Anybody interested in furthering the cause?
 
Agreed Hughie.There is absolutely no loyalty towards 123Net. Because there is no service, nor communication. Red tape only stretches so far, this is complete ignorane. What will the call center be like when they actually pull this of before 2020?

Who has the skill to get us all on the RFQ list? Please start a new page for Secunda fiber sign up. I'll send my cancelation through. But first we need to set a public deadline for 123Net.

How does end of January at midnight sound against no communication?

It seems a community drive and rescue is our only hope.

Any other ideas?

Actually.. myself. Quantic and a few other friends drove this thing in Secunda.

Whether a home association drove fibre in another town is irrelevant to this thread and completely irrelevant to our interest. We want the fibre here. We are painfully aware that other places have fibre.
 
Guys. I just think they bit off more than they can chew.

All these requests from different areas and they can't service them all in one go.

I am going to wait patiently until they come. Or until another service provider is willing to come plant the fibre.

I am positive this will still happen.
 
Thanks Alex, we appreciate that you and Quantic were the main peanuts in the beginning, but what we are doing now isn't working. We need to up the game and get the message to the ISP's who are interested in planting fibre here. This needs to come from a (common) representative(s) of the community. Call it what you want - home association or whatever. We just need to stand together or do what @Carbonza says, sit and wait patiently.

Good things only come to those that work their asses off. So we the community will need to exploit every possible solution to our fibreless desert of a town.

They haven't made a single public statement in 100 days plus. This speaks quite a lot regarding intent.

I'm no longer positive or negative I'm now in the stage where I look at the facts not the hype
