Fibre: Secunda Community

Looks like Afrihost Mobile is going to get my > R1000 for a couple more months (years). I don't know what (private) company does their project front end loading so poorly...

123Net should have gauged interest (like they did), sent out contracts (without promises), and also tracked the contracts in the same manner as the live signup counter (people like **** gamified, give us a target, give us a reason to start small talk with a complete stranger to get them to submit their contract, we don't give a **** about fibre, we just want to win(e)).

Now all of a sudden after expectation was created, the "investors" did not give a go ahead...We are immune to Stockholm syndrome, this is Africa. Actions speak louder than words (there is a reason that sentence is a cliche)! It makes me want to puke every time I read that line that 123Net wants to bring SA into the modern age...

Be transparent or **** off!

Require 500? Wait wait what? The required signups was around 285 something in order to get things going. Need 200 more than what was necessary to begin with in order to actually start trenching?

In reality we actually need about 1000 customers to be properly feasible. The 300 signups were to gauge interest and begin planning, and seeing as over 600 have signed up, we have been instructed to ask for 500 as a starting point.

Alright.. you guys started trenching and laying fibre in umhlanga right. Do you have that sheer amount of contracts returned there?
 
What happened to the machines are ordered and it's only the municipality that's holding us up?

You guys are starting to contradict yourself...
 
Lets say two kids want to build a sand castle. The one kid has the knowledge how to build the castle so it can stand up and stay sturdy. The other kid has the sand. The other kids on the beach are required to help build the sandcastle. The builder requires 10 kids to help build the castle and provide a cup of water. The kid with the sand now says. We need 50 kids . Or you aint getting no sand.... does this make sense

Not to worry gentlemen. For those of us that did sign the contract. We are still under protection from the CPA. They cannot legally take your money by enforcing the contract and not providing the services contracted. Worst case scenario we don't get fibre.

Sorry guys, but this is the information that has just been handed to me. Different towns & suburbs of differing sizes and populations will always potentially have different requirements as feasibility will always differ. We need at least 300 contracts from Weltevreden Park (+-450 signups) and 500 contracts from Secunda (+-600 signups). Our costs to deploy fibre and especially our monthly costs for these two areas will be vastly different. We are to a certain extent bound by our overseas investors' requirements and conditions and have to comply :(

This does not mean that all is lost! We are contacting signups to encourage them to sign up and Kalin will attend to the contract queries as soon as he can. He is under an insane amount of pressure and stress at the moment and is flying to Bulgaria tonight to try and sort a lot of things out.
 
Wow, it seems these investors want a return on their investment almost immediately. This venture is doomed to fail. :wtf:
 
Yea I could imagine Kalin is under pressure. Poor guy tried to bring a fibre topia, and now the investors turned it into a quick money scam. Sorry but your investors just cost you allot of money since you wont get 500 people to take a chance on something that NO ONE can give any feedback on. You had 180 but that number isnt going to reach 500 unless there is good feedback from some one that is alreafy connected in Secunda.

Was a nice dream but I just woke up with a bang...
 
yeah really bummed now after reading the last couple of pages, if it ever happens good, if it never happens kinda obvious, hows that cliche' saying go..... If it sounds to good to be true..............................................
 
If you want 500 signups...... get a team into secunda and market it, you cant ask for word of mouth promotion if your clients have nothing to promote, whatever you did in the past to get the hype now needs to happen as a regular committment to this town. Ive said this before Secunda has the highest bandwidth use in mpumalanga, next to nelspruit.... and we want more but are restricted. A few years ago Secunda was the 4th richest town in the country, at any point in time Secunda has one of the largest accumulation of minds in the country as well outside any metropolitan setting. We might be a small town in the middle of the sticks but do us a favour, dont take us for idiots or chancers or con artists or worthless. Weltevreden vs Secunda...... really!!
