Fibre: Secunda Community

The neighbourhood association wants to do things their way and 123net another. So not a good match I agree. But 123net doesn't need an association to get to your area. It seems to be a bad spite reaction for the association to tell people to withdraw their commitment now as 123net will get to the area.

If as an association they recommended 123net but are no longer happy with the provider, I think it's within their rights to tell residents they no longer recommend 123net and provide them with cancellation forms to cancel their contracts.

Of course it's up to each resident, as adults, to ultimately decide if they wanna cancel but at least the association has done what it can to distance itself from what it deems to be a bad provider it recommended.

With a new company like this, building a reputation is important at the beginning and they've done more to hurt their rep than to build it.

Communication was terrible, timelines missed, promises broken...nobody is going to trust a company like this. Business 101 is that you don't just disappear for months without any communication when you know there are communities out there waiting for feedback. It's just stupid and shows a lack of interest.

Of course it is well withing their rights to no longer endorse it. It is not within their rights to tell people to withdraw their commitment as they weren't the only driver. People registered on their own and through word of mouth. So it's more an action of spite.

Actually it is well within their rights, and completely LEGAL. They are not forcing anybody, but stating their position, and then offering the residents to details to cancel their contracts, if they so feel like it.

I remember the precious glimmer of hope in my eyes back in the day when I saw this message! How sad that thinks turned out like it did.

123net: March 8th - a shipment with 580km of fibre arrived at Durban Port
1.Not going to get the rollout far...
2.Ordering more would probably yield a lower cost/km from your supplier.

In the meantime we did all registrations in order to start working in South Africa.
3.Besides that, has the municipality approved the wayleaves for Secunda by now? Are you even still on this?

It takes time,
4.it's been a long time

but we are serious!
5.Would like to see this in deeds

We are developing a special social program for all the suburbs.
6.Been there done that. Develop the fibre network instead of a free marketing campaign.

But we have to start from somewhere, close to our office and DC and build the infrastructure. Otherwise no cheap/free internet will be possible at all.
7.and here we get to the swing behind the hammer. Low capital to invest-as the volume of uptake on your service would yield a return on investment rather quickly. Your plan is to branch out from Umhlanga and not hop skip and jump to places like Secunda that are too far away.

We are trying to do the best for our customers - real and future.
No excuses here, you should start with your integrity.

We covered some areas and we will continue to cover many more next year!
8.All areas listed on your website that have been covered are small suburbs bordering you in Umhlanga, I suspect this trend to continue.

9.Fix the image on your website's front page, really...whilst you are at it, have a look at the "support" tab it's appropriately dysfunctional.

....
10. Tired of being lied to.

But you're missing the main point of the argument.

Fact: 123net did NOTHING to drive the initiative. The spammed the residents with email asking for a contractual commitment which was flawed ( read the FTTH Paulshof thread)

Fact: 123net have displayed zero evidence of publishing a schedule (even a conditional one) and then implementing (or even attempting to implement) that schedule.

It's not an action of spite.
Fact : It's because of a lack of timeous response , community engagement , tangible delivery from 123net.
No, you're missing the point. It was individuals that got the signups. They have no rights as an association to then tell those signups to cancel their commitment.

I think you have a major misconception about what is right and wrong.

No I have no misconception. I know what is right and wrong and telling people to cancel contracts that other people sourced may be legal but is wrong and unethical in the least. But of course the Vuma fanbois won't agree with that!

I may be a VUMA fanboy, but at least VUMA keep their promises. We started our drive for sign ups in May 2015, got all the Sign Ups (not signed contracts) by Sept 2015, October 2015 trenching started, first homes went live in January 2016.

What has 123Net done? I can completely understand why Paulshof CA decided to rescind their endorsement.

Stop shifting the goalposts.

Again, is there any suburb outside of Durban anywhere in the country where 123net has rolled out fibre?

Nope.

After a year, zero expansion. Why would anyone choose 123 over someone like Vuma?

please, with 123Net there are no goalposts.

the fact is Paulshof CA acted in the best interest of the community.
The fact in they interfered in a community project. Not what a good and responsible resident's association does.

Actually, that is exactly what it should do. Take charge of these projects. if you go back, you will probably find it was them who initiated the project, and drove the sign ups from the beginning.

You are obviously biased.
Spend your pay check from 123net wisely.
And you aren't?

That isn't what I saw and the signup numbers don't reflect it either.
