If you have 19dB attenuation then you have a line fault if your SNR is so low. Try connecting the modem directly to the wall and disconnect all other devices. Do you have your alarm system connected via wireless or does it use the line?
 
my alarm is wireless and when i connect directly to the wall there is no change, a weird thing happened when i plug in an old billion router my stats change to 16dB downstream attenuation and SNR is 35dB but cant connect to internet because it says cant communicate to device although it shows im connected to internet, router always worked but think router is faulty now. so maybe i need a quality router?current router is tp-link TD-W8968.

Vash is in the same area as you, could you borrow his to check or another neighbors before you purchase a new one?
 
Ok, had a look, router says the followng:

SNR: 37.6 27.9
Line Aten: 8.4 6.0
Max rate: 26050. 1339

First number is downstream, second is upstream.

I assume this looks good that I can also try to get upgraded to 20meg?

Should easily be possible. See if you can have VDSL instead of ADSL, you'll get 2Mbps upload and it should be more stable.

I will try and borrow someones router first.i also see on telkom site my line is reported as faulty by them so will wait and see what hapens.

Thanks.

Phoned Telkom this morning and asked to be upgraded to Telkom Elite XDSL package. After taking all my details, I was expecting to hear that my line couldn't because of reasons, however, surprisingly, she told me to hold and then informed me my line should be upgraded within the next 24 hours, got a order reference number and everything.

Hopefully, will be successful.

Thanx Vash but i also connected a telkom router and also got 31dB SNR and connected mweb router and got 14 again.so thats just weird. So 2 is reading in the 30's and 2 in the 10's. If i do buy a new router i would not even know which one will work for me haha
 
does anyone have contact numbers for telkom people that can give a person a real answer on time frame, latest rumour i heard is that the telkom expansion is slowing down because of money issues in general
 
I see they replaced the blue box with a white one on the corner of Helen Joseph and Nelson Mandela Drive. Not sure if it's live or not yet though.

Mine is only: SNR 8.5 dB 11.0 dB
Line attn: 56.5 dB 31.5 dB
Max rate :5216 kbps 1084 kbps
First down steam and second upstream

Did you get your line upgraded?

Phoned Telkom again to ask why nothing has changed on my line, was told the order was not completed/incomplete. Will have to wait again to see if my line is upgraded.
