FIFA 14 - PC

Seconded.

If there's R1200 in the pool, maybe make 1st place gets R700, R300 for runner up and R200 for 3rd place?

Sounds good to me. I'll add that to the first post.

Also controller settings should be default or manual.

It depends if you guys can play one game or two games a week. Also do you guys want to play each player once or twice?

I think once will be fine or it would take way too long to finish.

I'm up for either one or two- Would depend on how many games players can get in on a week to week basis. Some guys will have more time on the week/weekend and some won't, I got in 3 friendly games last night.

As for controller, my opinion would be for either manual or semi. Having the controller settings set on assisted (default) is so weak. Ping pong passing can be rife!...and we're not kids. Why let the CPU AI control the play of the game for you?

Again, just my opinion on the matter- happy to go with the consensuses of the league.

I'll also say a two game schedule against your opponent would be nice- can do home and away.

How would the league work? Are we going to run a league with a points system? 3 points for a win- 1 for a draw? and have the league winners determined by final standings? OR will we uses groups who go on to qualify for a knockout phase?

Knockout phase?- makes sense to have 4 groups of 3 (12 players) with a random draw. top 2 (8 players) from each group go through for standard knockout.

Otherwise a standard points league with each team playing games to accumulate points works just as well. Everyone will get a change to play one another.

Apologies for the lengthy post!

A standard league is what we are going to be playing. Normal points system.

Controller settings are up to debate.

Great- I'm happy for standard league with a normal points system.

I'll say that either manual or semi be the only settings allowed. When we're playing for money, the CPU AI full assisted (default) shouldn't be helping us play for it. Some skill should be involved rather than just button mashing.

It's most fair NOT to go with fully assisted.

How do u practice manual or semi? If u play a friendly, do both players have to be manual for you to play manual? Tbh I've just left everything as default so I'd like to get a bit used to manual or semi

I'm so into fut right now I don't really don't do anything else

I'm not sure I agree with you. I don't play this game often enough to be able to play with pro passing and get good enough to be competitive. I generally buy the game and start playing on default settings, and it's fun. I don't have time to master the more difficult settings of the game. I've tried them in Fifa 13, and sucked horribly.

I don't see how it's not fair if we play with assisted passing, since both players have the same assisted passing. Just my thoughts.

+1

I thought the default settings are already on semi - assisted, which I think would be fine to give the guys who play less a chance to win against the guys who play more, also I remember in fifa 13 for tournaments the guys used to fight a lot about just tactical defending or legacy defending, I only play with tactical so I don't have a problem when people only allow tactical but I would like to hear this leagues ruling on it

Semi isn't as bad as Manual. Manual is by far the hardest to master. That's why I think Semi- assisted should be fine for everyone. It's the most fair in my honest opinion.

Assisted is just way too easy- you could be facing in the opposite direction and pass 45 degrees behind you and put the ball onto a teammate across the field. It eliminates any sort of actual skill with the game. Build up is non-existent because...

If you play a FPS, you don't have auto-aim on? it would defeat the object of the game, and if I can reiterate that playing on NON-assisted is so much more satisfying. Your play will be more creative and scoring a goal is so much more rewarding- why would anyone be pleased to have the CPU help you do it?

You also get that stupid "ping pong" style of play where moving the ball up-field and scoring a goal is nothing more than a few pushes of the pass button and a cross.

Getting used to semi should be pretty easy for anyone who has played this game before.

I' more than likely going to go with manual or semi (semi if everyone plays with assisted) because I just can't be pleased if I win a game on assisted- who would be pleased to win a game when the CPU AI does most of the work?

Again just my views- if you guys haven't changed from default- move to semi and you will see it's so worth it! You'll also see the disgusting amount of help you receive from the CPU AI on default.

FIFA's default is assisted. semi is next and then manual.

Legacy and tactical defending isn't as game changing as the controls, as the CPU AI doesn't have as much of an influence regarding that setting.

Legacy: homing missle-style defense. holding the button will make your defender automatically smother the ball carrier and then automatically go for a tackle when the timing is right. There is a separate button to call a second defender to do the exact same thing, thereby giving you two Terminator robots hunting the ball down anytime you like.

Tactical: Holding the button will make the defender contain, locked into a decent position between the man in possession and the goal. You can vary the distance but the timing of the tackle itself is on you to work out. You can call a second defender to contain but much like the first defender, no tackle will be made.

I totally understand your point of view. I'm not asking everyone to use just manual as that be silly for guys to master in the span of a few days- it's not possible unless you have some mad stick skills. Realistically though, semi is a viable option and isn't a massive jump down from assisted, but does have a better feel and gives more control to the human player. Again just to state I think it's the most fair. If I am playing a human player, I want to play against the player-not the CPU.

Go into your settings, go under controller and change all the settings to semi-assisted. I think you also get more XP for the settings change. Trust me...once you play on semi-assited, you won't go back to full-assisted ever again. You would more than likely try move onto Manual, which you can do slowly if you do.

Like have shooting on manual, while passing can stay on semi. Your play will change, and you will highly appreciate the gameplay much more.

How is FUT?

I haven't had a hell of a lot of time with FIFA 14 so far, game is great and would like to get into FUT.

If you're ever up for a FUT game hugo, let me know.

Hey Twitch is right most things are on assisted with default settings

But I am going to have to vote that we play with the default settings as I buy games like fifa for the competitiveness of it, its no use if I learn how to play like that and get beaten at other tournaments (because most tournaments use default) and I use default for online play as well

But that is just my opinion let me know what the rest of you guys think

I have to agree, the last tournaments I played, everything was left on default.

It really doesn't matter to me but I will say that default settings are actually the most fair, seeing as we already have 4 or 5 out of the 8 confirmed people who use it. If the league starts next week and, as an example, I play zedz - having more experience with semi-assisted is really going to give me a big advantage. I will vote for default settings for this reason.

As far as the league goes. I would recommend two games a week, each team plays each other twice (home and away)That means 14 games for the season (7 weeks). To me that sounds much better than a league lasting over 3 months.

Also one more thing. Match duration - I'd prefer to play longer than 6 mins, maybe 10 mins? But I'm fine with whatever the consensus will be.

I'm actually on semi-assisted, so if you guys are happy with that, then cool. I forgot my settings from Fifa 13 was pulled into Fifa14. I agree that defending MUST be set to tactical defending. Legacy defending is cheating IMO.
