Zurich - Fifa president Sepp Blatter said on Friday that he will visit South Africa shortly to urge lawmakers to speed up building work for the 2010 World Cup, amid growing concern about delays.

Blatter said he would meet South African President Thabo Mbeki and make an appeal to the country's parliament "to explain the value of the World Cup and to fire up the organising committee, because it's the last moment to start building five stadiums.

Now can someone tell me how many STRIKES or we going to have, from now until 2010

LOL. Poor Mr Blatter's reputation is on the line here. He backed SA vehemently, and there's a good chance SA can't deliver.

"Fifa to speed up 2010 progress" = "Fifa worried about Africa Time"

We only have a couple of years to get things up and running.

And I still wouldn't board a train wearing my Cats, I'd end up walking home in my socks. Public transport is in a sad state and isn't fixed overnight.

Well I hope his plane is delayed, he spends an hour waiting at customs, his luggage gets pilfered and then he gets mugged on the way to his hotel. Only then will I say welcome to the new South Africa.

Was never really a fair bidding process anyway, I mean lets be honest, once they decided it had to go to Africa SA didn't have much competition. So you can't really claim SA won on merit which I think is half the problem, if they'd been forced to compete against the rest of the world they'd have had prove themselves before they were even awarded it, rather than now.

Well, I think we got it out of sympathy because the way this years world cup bid was handed to Germany by that dude from New Zealand's non-vote. Anyway, IMHO we may have been better off today had we won the bid for this year. I think the scary thing is technologically the world is moving lightyears ahead of us while we just keep stalling. will probably not improve anytime soon either.

I'm betting SA will not be ready for World Cup by 2010, but that's just me I do though hope we are and we can make a good showing off it.

I just get the feeling that some people would love for SA to fail, so they can say, "Yeah that's the NEW SA for you"
It's sad really :(

Either way it wasn't purely on merit. Which seems to be part of the problem, govt had the sense of entitlement they seem to with everything else, and the resultant inaction follows.

shock g what is really sad is ppl like you who find ppl like me and others sad, who think we will fail

its not that we want it to but if you look at it realisticly(spelling) we are not in good shape man

transport not good crime not good

what is being done for these 2 factors?
nothing my man

i would rather not have a world cup than have a world cup where tourists are getting raped murdered mugged etc, that would be so sad
