Fifa World Cup 2026

After watching the Mexico game I have a tiny bit of hope. Korea is not that great. But we'll have to be even better than than last night.

Must win game, were we need to score. We will start with the right attitude.

6 are overseas based and most are young, so little experience.

A handful are in the MLS, which is rapidly improving in quality.

The only player with exposure to elite football is Lyle Foster, who plays for Burnley. He has Premier League experience but his goal return is very poor. He's scored 8 goals in 50 Prem appearances. Granted Burnley are a yo-yo club that get promoted and then immediately relegated so they're poor by Prem standards, but he has also been underwhelming in the English second tier with 3 goals in 39 games.

We long for the days of Lucas Radebe, Sibusiso Zuma, Aaron Mokoena, Mark Fish, Shaun Bartlett and Benny McCarthy. And even then the PSL was of a higher quality across the league, particularly in our ability to produce actual goal scorers, something that has become a big problem for us.

Benni was a pundit on BBC last night. At one point he said "they need me playing".

If these youngsters gain some experience and we get a good coach we should be a better team by the next world cup. Foster has had some off the field issues and doesn't look fit but if he can get his act together he is one of our best players and a proper goal threat, hIs goal to game ratio is the best by far over the past 5 years.

Our problem at the world cup is not the talent, we have that, it might not be the best but it is there and competitive enough. We are suffering from our long absence from the World Cup and competing at a high level in general, maybe some have forgotten we were even failing to qualify for Afcon.

And all that is the fault of SAFA for hiring mediocre coaches, that is why the talk of Mkhelele taking over must be shut down. Broos might have his flaws but he has a record, when he leaves, let's get someone at the same level, pity Renard is taken.

Isn't there a good coach in the PSL or youth leagues oe assistant to Broos that can take over?

Rugby had the same problem were Jake White was the best coach in the 2000s and he is very average and all the other idiots were worse.

But now with Rassie we have the best coaches and we are even starting to export them.

Soccer is really not that difficult/technical.

The biggest challenge SA has a lack of belief. They were on a high after doing good at the qualifiers. Then they got nervous screwed up a few games and bombed at Afcon instead of just keeping the high/winning mentality going.

I'm attributing lots of the negative attitude to Broos that want to go into defensive mode just when things start happening.

I took a nice bet on Sa to win or draw, might double down on the Korea game as they may play for a draw.

The problem is the way we do the assistant coach thing, our attitude to it is that it should be a lame duck of a person, who won't challenge the coach and who will take whatever he is offered, so we often land up with people who have no profiles of their own as coaches, but who should be rewarded because they were part of the system.

That is how we ended up with the likes of Ntseki and Mkhelele, De Sa is still an assistant coach following Queiroz around where he goes, our assistants never grow out of being assistants because they have never been head coaches, it is only Pitso and that is because he was a coach and had his own record before he became Parreiras assistant.

So we need to change, an assistant to the national team must be something more than a career assistant so that we can say we are building a future coach, but that would require SAFA to pay them according to their CV, which will of course be a problem.
