Fighter jet over Fourways/JHB north

Same here, and we stayed in chartwell, often had jets from lanseria and pretoria , but a sudden bang, another story

Many of the dogs in the area were reportedly frightened.
Not to mention some of the children.
 
Sigh... Not many people like the idea of having planes fly low over their houses. But when they want to go overseas, guess how they'll be travelling. If you want the advantages of aircraft, you have to be willing to put up with the noise - because someone has to.

Might be that PTA dogs are just more used to jets than JHB dogs. As for children - most little boys I know would run outside to catch a glimpse of the jet if they can.

I guess JHB people are not used to low flying fighters, so I can sort of understand their fear. What's strange to me, though, is when someone buys a house close to i.e. Waterkloof air base, and then complain about the aircraft making a noise. Surely you have to consider the noise when buying close to an military base.

Yeah, boggles my mind. Same thing happened here in Durban a while back with people complaining about the noise of the planes landing at the old airport, now that airport has been around 70 years!

However if they were to build an airport right next to you (ala King Shaka which I'm still pissed about) then I would understand.

Same thing over here at the race track (Killarney), there has been racing since 1949, there was no residential buildings anywhere close to it, not for miles upon miles.

Fast forward to today where the cheapest of the cheap houses are close enough to hear the racing, and they're under constant threat of closure by the council due to noise complaints ... dafuq?

It is simply awesome to see this type of hardware make an appearance.

A few years ago I stood on the flightline at Swartkop and watched a display by a Grippen, the taxi out, display and the taxi back past the crowd.

I have seen a few since but that was my first and the arms deal was hot on the press at the time. It was just wonderful to see.
There was a gent next to me with his very young son and the expression on this kids face, seeing and hearing this aircraft, just made my day completely.
We struck up a conversation about my camera, the displays and the arms deal. We both just laughed and were bursting with pride at seeing this remarkable piece of engineering in front of us. Both just South Africans of different races looking on with pride.

I remember watching many displays, of Mirages and Cheetahs as a kid and know how that positively influenced me.
I'm pretty sure the impression it left on that youngster was no different.
The biggest sadness is we don't get to see them nearly enough as the paying public/taxpayers of this country.

Also, I really don't give one flying #$%^ if your dog or cat has/had a wobbly, once in a blue moon because someone actual flew one in and around your vicinity, quite frankly lighten the FU.
 
The thundering growl of the Cheetah is awesome. The Grippen is quieter.

And boy, do I love the Vampire...

Oh yes, almost forgot, we had a Harvard in Flying School colours flying about on Saturday morning.

Yup, very much so.
MIII still my favourite of what we have here. Its like Thor coming past and saying f u beetches, loud and nasty :)
The Vamp is also quite special to see. Best was the Spitty doing a flyby across the strip abreast a MIII, one balls to the wall the other at stall speeds practically.
